I was trying out SMC fan control on my SR Macbook Pro. Not it seemes that my fans always run at 1500 when the computer is cold. I thought they used to run at 1000 rpm. I had the computer off for 2 hours and still the same. How do I get back to my original setting.

use the software.

That's what it does.

At least, v2 does for me...

My minimum is 2000 though, it wont let me set it lower than that... strange.

if you take the program out of startup and shutdown then restart the program is completely out of the picture

SMC Fancontrol makes changes in a low level, it survives reboots, so you can use it to change the fan speed and then reboot into windows!

to re set fan speeds where you want them uninstalling the software wont help, you have to use the software again, set it where you like it, then close the software.

Does it lock the fan speed as well? For example, let's say I set it 4000 RPM in Mac OS than dual boot into Windows. While in Windows, I play some game that heats up the MBP even more. Will the fans ramp up to 6000 RPM, or will it stay at 4000 RPM?

I don't know about locking, but the software interface claims that it simply sets a minimum speed, what the actual result is, I havent tested.

What is the minimum speed for the fans in a 2.4 SR MBP? I thought it was 1000 but after I used SMC fan control even with a shutdown the lowest I see is 1500rpm.

My lowest fan speed is set to 2000RPM, but SMC can be adjusted to a 1000RPM minimum. However, the CPU temp will rise. For fan and hopefully, internals longevity, I've kept my lowest fan speed at 2000RPM and the low temp set at 50C.

Another Question...I just reformatted and installed smcfancontrol, and its a new version....but now, whenever I wake from sleep, of plug in or unplug ac power, it prompts me for my password...how the hell do I make this stop??? Should I just install the old version?
