SMS memory full in unlocked phone

I have an unlocked phone with 1.1.1. I understand the SMS full bug has been fixed in subsequent software updates but short of doing a software update, is there any way around this SMS full problem without deleting the SMS?

update to 1.1.4 and the amount of allowed stored messages has been increaed A LOT

As far as I understand...

Firmware's 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 have a maximum capacity of 1000 text messages.

Firmware's 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 have a maximum capacity of 70,000 text messages.

One text message is measured as 160 characters.

Just upgrade to 1.1.4 - there is no reason to be in 1.1.1 anymore. Modmyifone.com
