Hi Guys.

My girlfriend insists this combination was possible in iOS10.

Home screen
- Shows banner of sender and no preview of SMS

Lock screen
- Shows notification of sender and no preview of SMS

Notification Centre on home screen(pulled down when unlocked)
- Shows notification of sender WITH preview of text

I been trying to replicate these settings in iOS11, and have looked through the notification and messages settings, to no avail. Can someone tell me which combination to invoke to get this setup.

Or is this not possible in iOS11 and why?

thanks!:apple:;)

iOS 10 had an option of no preview on Lockscreen but had the option to preview when unlocked (homescreen, in apps, or notification center). That's how I had mine and my girlfriend's setup.

Thanks so much for your reply, so this combination is no longer possible under iOS11?

Seems like there’s a new option to show previews when unlocked that’s there for basically all apps.

its still available under the messages options in the notification settings. you just have to turn it back on for some reason. I just did it.

Yeah but what that does it shows the banner eith preview in home screen. It used to hide the preview in home screen banners whilw showing the preview in notification centre :(

I don't recall it working like that--I think it would hide the preview if the device was locked, but show it if it was unlocked. But it has been some time since I played around with that in iOS 10 (as I ended up enabling previews always basically), so perhaps I'm recalling it wrong. It would be kind of odd that it wouldn't display it in the banner but would show it in Notification Center when unlocked.

I agree 100% it is weird in theory, and i personally have no need for such a feature. The thing is I have seen my girlfriend using it in passing and she claims its better for privacy as regardless of using the phone or not, sitting on a desk unlocked, or showing someone a photo or video - it wont show the contents of the message in the banner - until you swipe down for notification centre.

It bothers me that Apple would for no apparent software reason, just remove such features

I guess I wonder what would be the setting for that even in iOS 10. The locked/unlocked part makes sense, but this is even more unique as far as don't show previews even when unlocked, but do show them in Notification Center, but only when unlocked.

I just checked an iOS 10 device and see what you mean. It has the same settings essentially, but it seems like there is what’s likely a bug/glitch when previews are turned off they still show up in Notification Center (while in iOS 11 it’s consistent in the sense that with previews off they don’t show up even in Notification Center).
