Hi,

I'm in the UK so with o2. My iphone isn't jailbroken or anything like that. Anyway, sometimes I'll hear the sound for an SMS, but no actual message appears. I've only got that sound set to SMS so the phone should have no reason to do this. Does anyone else get this? I do wonder if I'm failing to get messages..

Cheers

I can't help you much with solving the problem, but you're not alone. I get this sometimes. I've just had a message from someone who claims I'm not talking to her, and it wasn't intentional. So, I can only assume I haven't been receiving some messages.

If it happens again I'm going to try restoring my iPhone and starting again. I've no idea if it will help, and it's hard to test because I don't know what sort of messages (if any) are failing, or if it's just random.

Damn, I just posted the same thing in another thread. I've noticed the same issue. Sound but no SMS, a few minutes after actually receiving an SMS (with notification sound).

(iPhone 2.2 firmware)

Repeated notifications are by design, phantom ones aren't though...

Five and ten minutes after receiving an SMS you will get the notification sound again if you have not read the message. This is a new feature (and is not user selectable) under (IIRC) firmware 2.2. There are also reports of people having problems with the unread counter breaking and reporting unread messages when this is not the case. A fix for this (for jail broken iPhones only) is available from,

Perhaps these combined are causing you the phantom alert sounds?

Regards, Alec
