I have a friend who owns a non Apple phone but does have an iPad. On my iPhone I have a conversation with their phone number (SMS) and their email address (iMessage). The iMessage conversation shows in Messages on my Mac.

Today they sent me an SMS and it almost instantly appeared in the existing conversation on my Mac. When I replied from my Mac it sent as an iMessage. I can understand iMessage being the default method but this is not ideal for messaging people who have a mixture of Apple and non Apple devices.

Anyone have a workaround for this or is there something I should be doing differently?

Thanks

you need to click on the name/ contact above the message thread and select the number for sms there. yes, kinda sucks.

Going to be a bit annoying that it's not an exact mirror of my phones messages but I think i can live with it. Thank you for your help.
