SMS Sync working with "Airdrop for Old Macs?"

Anyone seeing SMS (green bubble friends) sync working with Yosemite and iOS 8?

I have no idea what protocol it's using? Bluetooth LE? AirDrop?

Sounds silly but this is the best continuity feature for me and I wish it works with Old Macs. Yosemite enables Airdrop on my 2008 aluminium MacBook (although it's called "Airdrop for older Macs". Mavericks didn't (officially) support airdrop on my machine but a terminal command enabled it.

I don't have iOS 8 (so I can't actually answer the question; just curiosity here), but I am using PB 1.
What iPhone are you using?

I am running the 2009 MBP in my sig. My AirDrop window looks like attached.

Yep, that's exactly how my window looks. 2008 MBP.

I'm using the 4S at the moment but will upgrade to the 6 when it comes out so that's not going the limiting factor.

I just want to hear from anyone with any iPhone that has gotten this to work with an older mac.
