SMS Touch..Landscape Texting??

Check this out, I havn't bought it yet, but does anyone know anything about it?

"SMS touch enables user to compose SMS messages using Apple's wider landscape keyboard and send them through email without incurring SMS fees."

Can you only text using there service?

Its really just using email to send the text, so when you get them back, you'll still be charged for them. Cuts your over all usage in 1/2 which is nice, but I like the integrated SMS app, being able to see whole conversation is useful to me

When you send the text, does the recipient see your name/number or just an email address?

There is an app called biteSMS. It's free to download and has text forwarding and lanscape mode. They also have a system for purchasing SMS credits via paypal so that you can send texts over their service, works out cheaper for international texts. This is optional and you can use your mobile carrier as normal as well.

Bier-meister, Americans have to pay to receive txts as well as for sending them. It's quite possibly the most retarded pricing system I've ever heard of, as you have little control over what other people send you.

Oh, you can receive texts alright, you just have to pay for them. There is no way to block or ignore an incoming text.

During my time at high school years ago, I had no credit on my phone for about 3/4 weeks of a month, yet I still received hundreds of texts in that month. Sent replies for free using the O2 website. Happy times..

With ATT, if you do not have a messaging plan, each one (sent or received) is 20 cents. biteSMS credits in the US are 10 cents per message.

1. biteSMS is only used for outgoing messages, incoming still incur carrier charges.
2. Even the smallest ATT Text plan ($5.00/mo for 200 messages) gets the price down to 2.5 cents each and 10 cents for each additional message.
3. The next ATT plan ($15.00/mo) drops the price to 1 cent each for 1500 messages, 5 cents each additional message.
4. The next step up is ATT Unlimited for $20/month.

For people who only text to US numbers, there's no need to buy credits from biteSMS, unless you want to support them. Also keep in mind, biteSMS only supports certain networks. For example, I can send a text to a Verizon number using biteSMS credits, but the recipient can not reply to me.

Wow, that's the stupidest thing I ever heard. So if I had an American friend I could spam him with lots of texts to annoy him and there is nothing he can do and he will have to pay for them

Since the context of this thread is the iPhone, we're discussing the ATT text plan. Other carriers have different plans.

Yes, you could do what you describe, but you'd be paying for sending the messages and the recipient would not be your 'American friend' for long.
