I got my 15 Pro Max Black this morning. Wow the PVD coating is terrible it honestly is a finger print magnet on the sides. The worst Apple ever made was the Jet Black many years ago. I love the phone but I will case it just to keep the prints down. Is it worse than the Stainless Steel no but it really shows the prints. Brushed titanium with PVD is not the answer. Its good they didn't do the AW Ultra in black as we were expected that would have caused a big stink...

So this is really just an I in jest post BUT.... Apple do you want your phones to always have condoms? Just sayin.

Am I being too OCD here? Theres a little round scuff out of the box in the top corner.

Hold on a minute. The jet black was on the iPhone 7. The next year they introduced the X with stainless steel. So you're saying it's better than any stainless steel phone and the jet black 7. That means that it's the LEAST smudge prone pro-level phone in 8 YEARS?! And that garners a "Gate" title? I know you were saying in jest, but come on. 🙄

That’s just saying that the Pro iPhones always had a low standard regarding fingerprint smudges.

Personally, it is the side of the phone, so I never see it. I use my phone without a case too.

View attachment 2276464Mine came with a visible scratch on it and now I have to wait 4-5 weeks for a replacement. I guess I’ll wait for the 16 series instead for an in-store pickup…
Cool. I take it you live in a clean room lab environment and put on special gloves to handle your phone? Becuase that's the only way it's never going to pick up some microscopic blemish like I guess you're showing here. Honestly I can't even see it.

Are the sides of the iPhone 15 pro going to end up like the iPhone X? That looked terrible after about a year of use with scratches everywhere and pretty much removing large parts of the coating.

I can't even pick it out in this macro shot. Seems insanely wasteful to bounce a perfectly functioning phone for something that invisible.
I was planning to sell it a month before the 16 series come out so the resell value is important to me, but yeah I was going to use it with a case so I don’t mind the look. Does anyone have a guess how much I would lose in value If I were to resell it compared to selling a one in pristine condition 🤔

Meh, devices are meant to be used, and fingerprints aren't something that should both most people. I've had just about every variation of every iPhone ever made, never used a case, and things have been just fine.

I would say 30 to 40%. This is my guess after checking the depreciation in some websites (in Europe)
