I haven't heard of this being discussed, but do you guys think fingerprints/smudges are going to be an issue with the iPad screen?

Considering the iPhone/iPod touch screen is easy to wipe off.

Funny - one review said that with the screen off you can see every smudge and fingerprint easily. Another said the screen was remarkably resistant to fingerprints and smudges :)

Can't remember which review said which...

I read the iPad has the EXACT same screen that is finger print/smudge resistant. This does not mean it will not smudge. Get you a microfiber cloth

The NYT review and the follow up FAQ answer these questions:

"When the very glossy 9.7-inch screen is off, every fingerprint is grossly apparent."

"Q: I read that it has a fingerprint-resistant screen, but then you said the fingerprints show up disgustingly. What's the real story?"

"A: Fingerprints are greasily, streakily visible when you turn off the screen. But the iPad has the same oleophobic (oil-resistant) coating as the iPhone, so all the streaks disappear with a single firm wipe on your pants leg."

I thought the specs mentions an oleophobic coating on the screen, which is basically something like teflon. I've got that on my phone and it isn't perfect but it does make fingerprints harder to "stick" to the screen.

As for cleaning it, it won't be as easy as wiping an iPhone's screen on your shirt. Yes, the smudges will be a problem for some. Wash your hands well before playing, and keep a pack of alcohol wipes around.
