I haven't heard of these smudges before, but you should definitely head to an Apple Store for an under-warranty replacement--even if the smudges rarely occur.

its the live wallpaper, its been confirmed (only that specific one). I've changed my wallpaper since, hasn't come up again.

From the pictures, the smudges appear to be underneath the display and only appear for a short time (since the location varies). Is this correct? Also, do you remember what the weather/room conditions were when this occurred? I'm wondering if it could be heat or humidity related. I say that because there may be something wrong with the display or how it is attached, and if this is the case the display may malfunction in the long run.
Had to laugh at this considering this has nothing to do with the problem. Good effort

Yeah they are visible only in certain pages. The room was a normal room with no humidity. I’m wondering how I will show this in an Apple Store since these smudges are visible only at minimum brightess.

How about pics of the phone in normal lighting not pitch black

They are visible only at minimum lightning. So to take a pic I gotta stay in a dark room.
Btw could u try to see if u got them to ?
They Are visible with this wallpaper at minimum brightness in the lock screen when u fail with Face ID and still swipe up to insert the pin (be sure u not looking at Face ID or u will unlock it) or in the multitasking after pressing of some app to put them in “close mode). Thank u a lot if u can help me with ur feedback.

Do me a favor, go to settings/general/accessibility/increase contrast and turn on reduced transparency. See if you still get the smudges

I don’t get it anymore in the multitasking . But the pin page becomes all grey.
What’s ur conclusion?

Yes, at least in the multitasking case. In the other they are gone cuz the screen is all grey .

I think haqsha23 is right and the dynamic wallpaper is whats causing the issue. It could be a unintended bug in iOS 11.1 that will be fixed in later updates or just a crappie side effect when you use the dynamic wallpapers and have the transparency turned on. I would try a different wallpaper (not dynamic) and turn transparency back on and see if it still shows the smudges.

Actually that wallpaper is in static mode. And it does this in live mode to. Other live wallpapers doesn’t make this effect.

I'd say it's a bug. Are you hell bent on using that wallpaper? If you're really worried about it, go to the Apple store and see if you can recreate it on another phone. I'm still waiting for my X so I can't check for you.

I’ll go tomorrow. Thanks a lot for helping man. Appreciated it

My iPhone X does something similair, with the same wallpaper. The smudge is larger and it apears with reachability, not in multitasking. My guess is that it's related to the OLED screen with low brightness and is a colour issue?

Please report back after you've talked to an Apple Genius. I am curious to know what they do.

Same problem.
[doublepost=1510204810][/doublepost]Starting to think it might be a hardware problem on some devices.

I have a different shape, same area, but only on this wallpaper.

I can capture in a screenshot making me think this isn’t hardware, more software and possibly a bug between the wallpaper and the overlay.

Weird it’s a different shape though?

That is interesting. I wonder how many would actually notice this based on the display and or the color in the background.

I reported this problem In a Facebook group and everyone has this effect. I don’t think I’ll go to an Apple Store :(

Do u really can capture this in a screenshot?cuz when I go check the screenshot the pic is normal with no smudges. Tbh they disappeared after i restarted the phone, now they are back there. I have a smudge even with the yellow live wallpaper.

I can see the smudge only in the screenshot miniature but when I go check it in the gallery the screenshot is smudgeless.
