Hi all,

I decided to give Smugmug a try. I have a two week trial to decide if I actually want to pay for it. Since Flickr is where I dump all of my photos (mostly "snapshots") for friends and family, I thought it would be nice to have a place with just my favorite photos together.

Here's the link to my page:

What do you think, is it worth it to have a smugmug account if I'm just an amateur (and will forever be one)? C&C on the photos themselves is always welcomed, I'm afraid some of them are a little TOO amateur (I'm terrible at post-processing).

Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians, happy weekend to the rest of you!

:)

I'm just an amateur as well, but I have a Smugmug account, too. I've had it for a couple of years now. I have sold a few pictures here and there. It isn't many, but it has been enough to at least pay for the Smugmug account.

I haven't had time to look at your pictures yet, but you should put in some kind of profile picture. That blank space is not very flattering. :)

I like the layout and the composition of the photography is quite good in my opinion. Technically, they seem a bit on the soft side, though. It could be my vision as I am waiting on cataract surgery. I compared your gallery to keleko's and his images seemed sharper to me. As far as post processing goes, it's a combination of art and science and can only be learned through practice.

Keep it up.

Melizard, I'm glad I noticed this thread. I looked at your site and recognized your name from the last print sale I made! That was you! Many thanks for the support. :) Anyway, of course it's worthwhile to have a nice showcase for your photographs regardless of your professional ambitions.

I looked through your photos and have to commend you for doing a good job on being conservative with the curation. You clearly went for quality over quantity, which can require some serious self control. I'm particularly fond of your shot #5 in the Landscape gallery: beautifully done!

I am not looking to sell any of my photos, I actually have yet to print any for myself. Do you think it's still worth it if I selling isn't my main goal?

Yes that was me :) You posted your photo "Fresh air" on here some time ago, and it took my breath away. I knew I had to add it to my collection of collection of nature prints on my walls. There are a few more of your shots that I have my eye on, for when my budget allows.

Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it.

Some great shots in there!

Thank you! :) It's a work in progress. And hopefully there is some progress haha.
