I was one of them.In the Pixel 5 discussion, many people claimed that we don't need such flagship performance anymore, that even mid-range chips will be fine for majority of people.
But now benchmarks and flagship performance is important again?
Too much is made of benchmark scores and not enough is made of real world experience. I have had more issues with app crashes/stutters on my iPhone 12 Pro Max than I have experienced on my Pixel 5. I ran a side-by-side test, out of boredom, and the Pixel 5 and 12PM load apps at a near identical speed (sometimes Pixel first and sometimes iPhone). Based on benchmarking alone the A14 should crush the SD765G but I have had a better and more consistent experience with the SD. Admittedly the OS probably plays a role too.For what it's worth - I grabbed a Pixel 4a 5G (running the SD765G) and am VERY pleased with it. The "lower power" SoC still runs this phone SMOOTH, it's plenty for my uses and the battery life (because of the lower-spec SoC) is GREAT.
Which is kind of what I was saying in the Pixel 5 thread, that was referenced above. Samsung, with DeX, can arguably make more use of the SD865 SoC because DeX turns the device into more of a computer experience where some "horsepower" is useful. Also not sure what you're thinking to conclude from comparing random numbers you find, you see TOPS on product A and TOPS on product B and seem to think that you can just compare those.
Going with your logic I can say that 888 is a bigger number than 14 so it must be better.
Also since you seem to not like numbers, this test is probably the most accurate cross-platform speed test

If it's 15 TFLOPS and A14 Bionic is 11 TFLOPS, all it really shows is that TFLOPS isn't the end-all-be-all of performance measurement. Those numbers don't translate to equivalent real-world performance gains or even benchmark scores since the iPhone 12 matches the SD 865+ in "app opening tests", and beats it in many benchmarks. We don't buy into sensationalism.
