ok, so i'm ordering my new imac, educational discount, 20" 1.5GB ram, 250 gb hard drive. i'm just about to check out when i notice the price3 is way up, so i go throught the specs again and it shows that they added "final cut express HD preinstalled" to the list. this only happens after i click "add to cart" and it only happens when the configuration is with 1.5 gb of ram

wat the hell is up with this?

So Not Cool. I tried it as well, jumped from 2070 to 2421 after clicking add to cart. Someone is most likely going to get screwed by this. Did you let apple know?

**EDIT**
See you're in the process

You save about $65 by buying from a third party and installing it. To some people, $65 is worth the convenience of having someone else install and ship it with the computer. I would probably spend the extra $65 to have Apple do it, and I'm a poor 16 year old as well. Of course, that's assuming I have $1800 to spend on a new iMac.

It is also covered by AppleCare this way.

I'd put a higher priority on learning how to write coherently than telling other people how to spend their money..

hmm your right I thought that apple memory cost like a million bucks more
Apple memory was way more expensive until this last round of updates. Now it's only slightly more than third party.

And on the Mac mini, getting the 1 GB upgrade from Apple (at least in the US) is now cost effective. And it means you don't have to open it up yourself.

You need to look at Apple's prices for memory versus the reputable third party memory suppliers when you actually go to buy the system. Third party memory prices change pretty much daily, so you don't know how much you might be saving..

It used to. But not since they switched to DDR2.

I just ordered a Dual core 2GHz to replace my G4 933MHz (!). I compared prices on RAM & Hard drive (I took a 500 GB) with macsales.com, crucial etc and Apple is now very close to the market value (finally).

somewhere between here and there.
It could be an innocent programming error, that is all. Nothing sneaky about that.

And I have a habit to calculate and double check the taxes, etc...just to make sure. I have yet to place all faith in all humans and computers. ;) :)
