On The Nickel, over there....
Hi all,
I have SL 10.6.8 with a MM account. I just received an email from Apple saying my email address will continue to work after MM ends and that my mail will be moved to iCloud. Here is the actual quote:
"Your mail will be moved to iCloud after June 30th.
You can continue to send and receive mail at your *******@me.com address after MobileMe ends on June 30, 2012."
Is this the answer to my prayers? I was going to upgrade to Lion only because I wanted to keep my email address and that requires iCloud. Also the Apple email mentions the .me address but I'm assuming that includes the .mac address as well.

Received the same email and have completed the alternative option to preserve my email address - confirmation states it's my .mac address so I think your assumption is correct - .mac and .me are identical aliases.

Whilst this is great news for those of us like you and I who want to keep their long-standing email address from July without upgrading to Lion - or iOS5 - it still doesn't address the issue of Apple insisting on Lion for full iCloud migration and features, even though it supports Vista. I think Snow Leopard users hoping for a U-turn and support via a final update next month are going to be disappointed.

There are several methods in getting icloud email and calendars on snow leopard.

Mail is easier
Set your email to point to the icloud imap servers
p??-imap.mail.me.com

?? being between 01 and 12, depending on where your icloud profile is.

Thanks for this info! I wish I knew how to use it.
As I have no iDevices, the only reason I'm interested in iCloud is to keep and access my mac.com email account. (RIP Gallery and iDisk)
Can you explain the details for setting email described above? Where do I change the "point to the imap servers" and how do I find out which number between 01 and 12 to use?
Thanks for any additional help in this!

You would need to migrate to icloud first. You can do this on your SL machine, but once you've done it you can only access it from ios5 devices, web icloud.com, and of course lion.
If you have a lion box the information to find the p number, if not you need to cycle through them.
They usually put it all one same cluster, so the p number you find is also good for ical.
