So i didnt really know where else to ask but my lightscribe software is not buring discs correctly under snow leopard. Im currently using the lacie disc labeler. I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem or knows of any other software to try other than disclabel which is working somewhat but only allows me to burn a label the size of half the cd.

I have the same issue, the LaCie lightscribe program does nothing but print a uniform dark background on the disc. The program is really old, so I doubt that there will ever be an undated version released. Anyone have any solution for lightscribe drives?

Umm, why not wait until Snow Leopard is released? If you were a developer, you wouldn't be asking this.

You can check with Lacie and see if they're planning on updating the software to make sure it's compatible with Snow Leopard, but remember that Snow Leopard isn't supposed to be in your hands right now.

I installed snow leopard yesterday (Sat) and have the same problem. It looks like LS is printing but when it's done nothing is on the disc and the disc is dark.

Try this, it was just updated on the 20th.

File name lightscribe_1.18.8.1.pkg.tar
File size 1.5 MB
Revision 1.18.8.1
Release Date August 20, 2009
Notes New drive support.
Requirements OSX 10.3.9 or newer. LightScribe Enabled drive and media. LightScribe Labeling Software.

Note
The LightScribe Labeling application software is also required to complete your software requirement. If you have a LaCie product, please visit them at www.lacie.com/support/lightscribe,

DiskCover 2 RE (bundled with Toast) prints fine to LightScribe drive.

I've updated the support files, which are used by LaCie's LightScribe Labeler (per Pomeroy) - I'll have to try that later. In the meantime, I can use DiskCover 2 (I find I switch between the two apps, depending on what I'm doing.).

I sold not long ago the old powerMac G4 that had a LaCie's LightScribe burner in it so I can't test the new files. I burned a backup DVD of Snow Leopard yesterday with Toast 8 and I was thinking then that the last DVD I burned was a day or 2 after Leopard came out. :D

I noticed that someone posted the LaCie support upgrades. Does anyone know what upgrade we can us for Snow Leopard? There is a lot of upgrades.

First thing I tried - no difference - assuming it is 1.18.8.1. I also had a look at http://www.lacie.com/more/?id=10016 where it states: "Important! Please make sure that you update your LightScribe host software LightScribe host software to 1.4.136.1. before installing the LaCie LightScribe Labeler 1.2 Updater or Installer" I am using 1.2. Nowhere is there a link to a download for 1.4.136.1. Perhaps it would be a good idea to put something on your site about this - together with links to download the necessary software.

Julian, I totally understand the confusión and frustration. At this time, Lightscribe and Snow Leopard are NOT compatible.
LS software 1.4.136.1 was released several years ago.
The latest version by LaCie is 1.8, by Lightscribe 1.18.
I will update you when the software that works on SL is available.
Thank you,
Gen

Can you put a timeframe on this? I bought the drive very recently...

Update re Lacie Lightscribe

Julian,

I do not have a timeframe. The technology used by Lightscribe is licensed by HP and so far there are no updates from them. If you see anything coming up on http://www.lightscribe.com that will work. But if they get anything, so will LaCie.

Thank you,

Gen

Hmmm - this is not very satisfactory, is it? Presumably you are still selling this drive and making claims for its compatibility when there should be a BIG notice on your site saying THIS DRIVE DOES NOT WORK WITH SNOW LEOPARD. Very unhappy indeed. it's about as much use as a chocolate tea pot. Looks like I shall have to let the various Mac forums know.

I went to the web page they told us to go to. I downloaded and could not get anything that I downloaded to work. It loaded and in the applications, I clicked on it and nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?

- following this thread - I have the same problem with the mac I upgraded to snow leopard.

As an alternative - I have Disk Cover 2 but not toast - will that burn to a lightscribe drive or do I need both - I've only done display designs on Disc Cover 2 before.

I believe the app has the drivers built-in. It should work. In any event, it shouldn't need Toast.

Thank you. Good to know. I forgot to mention the mac that has the disk cover2 software is still on leopard, the snow leopard machine just had the lacie software. I did confirm the simple lightscribe software does work on the snow leopard machine - so I am pretty good to go with both that and disc cover 2 as options when I do upgrade.

Simple labeler is fine but it won't let you print on the side of the disc. That's where I put the song names. It only lets you use the top or bottom of the disc

Mine too

I recently started using the lightscribe software again, and didn't realize that updating to snow leopard was the reason my discs weren't burning properly. I went out and bought another burner and wasted a lot of discs trying to make it work. I think the people at Lightscribe and HP are purposely not alerting us lightscribers of this problem with the new snow leopard. They should have this on their website rather than just having people think their updating the latest software but only downloading the simple labeller instead. Shame on you Lightscribe for wasting everyones money. I am taking everything back and spreading this bad news to everyone I know. Do NOT buy light scribe crap!

My Lightscribe disks turned black too...

Thank you for the clue as to what was happening. I made sure I had the latest Lightscribe software installed, but anything I tried to print using the LaCie Label program was still turning the disks black. After reading your posts, I realized I had DiscCover2 installed as part of the Roxio Toast package. I tried that software, and my HP lightscribe DVD burner worked perfectly.
Therefore, I must assume that the compatibility problem lies not with Lightscribe itself or (for those of you who own LaCie drives) with the DVD burners, but in the LaCie Labelling Software itself. We'll have to wait for LaCie to issue a fix before their software will work with Snow Leopard.
I also noted that my label design looked fine on the regular LaCie screen, but when I selected "Print Preview" it showed a black disk. Once LaCie has fixed their software, we should be able to verify the fix using "Print Preview" before ruining any more disks.
Thanks everyone for your posts on this matter.

I agree wholeheartedly. I am now using Disc Cover 2 which is a superb app.

Re: LaCie Software Update

To save everyone some time. The update wouldn't load on top of the previously installed LaCie Labeller. After making sure you have the latest update from Lightscribe.com, just go ahead and trash your old LaCie Labeller software and reinstall (the fix has been incorporated). Haven't burned a label yet, but I did pull an old one up and checked in the "Print Preview" pane. It is now showing the image to be burned instead of a black disk. Thanks LaCie!
