on the apple website: http://www.apple.com/au/macosx/snowleopard/ it says stuff about multicores, with a picture of an imac and apple laptop. i think maybe emplying that they will have quad-cores when snow leopard comes out.

a couple of questions about what people think....

- will there be quad-cores on imac and apple laptop?

- if they dont have quad-cores in the imacs by the time snow leopard comes out, do you think snow leopard will be on the imacs?

- if they dont have quad-cores in the imacs by the time snow leopard comes out, what is the point in having snow leopard on the imac?? isnt snow leopard the same as leopard but faster with multi-cores?

- if snow leopard is available on imacs with core 2 duo when it comes out do you think there will be much of a difference between leopard?

- how do you upgrade from leopard to snow leopard? cost aswell?

Quad core by release? Probably not.

Yes, they'll put it on their shipping computers as soon as it's released.

No, there are other tweaks. There's a point to it.

Probably, since the GPU will be used as processing power.

Pop in the disk and update, just like anything else.

$129. It's NOT free.

In case you were not aware, the Core 2 Duo is multi-core, it is two cores. It is likely that they heat index of the Core 2 Quad will be low enough next year to be able to ship in an iMac (you can upgrade any Core 2 iMac to Core 2 Quad if you feel so inclined). Also, Intel keeps talking about quad-core laptops, so I would expect at it to at least be an option by the time Snow Leopard comes out.

All shipping Macs have 2 or more cores. Are you confused about the definition of MULTI? Multi means more than 1.

Yes something new will always be on the horizon. In a few years there will be 16core. If you wait 20 years, there will probably be a thousand core processor or new technology.
