i ve been having numerous problem with my 2007 edition i mac. It freezes or crashes many times a week.I ve done a clean re install of snow leopard to no avail. I ve brought it in, it passed all the physical tests.I was told that they change the memory bar, in case that cased the problem. 2 days later it crashes again. No one seems to know what is the problem.
anyone has a clue.

thanks for any input.

I'm having the same exact problem! Gah! If you figure it out pleeeease let me know. I swear my imac crashes every night. Its ridiculous.

unplug all peripherals e.g. printers , harddrives . and whatever hangs on the usb ports
unplug mains of the iMac hold powerbutton for 10 sec to reset smc

open the iMac and clean it completely inside of all dust its 3 years old and
even a iMac needs cleaning inside from time to time

update to 10.6.4

install onyx to do some maintenance

put in your install disc and do some permissions repair , needs to be done with install disc

if that all doesn't help
bring it back to apple

there had been examples of logicboards/gpu failing causing freezes

random tip : if you buy a iMac buy it with apple care , if it is has not developed faults after 2 years 11 month sell it quickly and buy a new one
(now start at beginning of tip again )

snow freezes

thanks for your help but I ve already tried unplug and replug.I m up to date and presume that the apple staff cleaned the insides when they change the memory bar (free of charge).
My permissions where checked and repaired regularly.
As for Onyx used it but that didn't help.
I ve just downloaded an anti virus, who knows.Unfortunately no virus ;)
so i m left to bring it back again.
any how it s been 24 hres since my last crash.this is good for me.
any new tips are welcome, I m really out of ideas.unless I go back to thedark side of windows. At least every time it s down it s easier to repaire :D

had to mention it

well
I said 24 hres without a problem.
I m starting back at 0. as I was looking as to how to reset the smc it stoped working.
:mad::eek::confused::(:mad:

Are you doing anything in particular, using any specific applications when it crashes?

I had a problem with many apps crashing (but not the OS) after upgrading to SL. Once I figured out it was Flash and blocked or uninstalled plugins and what not, all my crashes ceased.

hi sandbox
since my last post it crashed another 2 times. ounce while surfing and once while opening disk utility.
as we speak I m going drastric:mad:. I m doing a clean re install with leopard, non more snow:p.In case you wunder I m using my sons pc to write this.
As I reflect on it my problems started soon after my initial upgrade to snow.
and slowly things got worst as time passed.
So this is where am at and if this doesn t fix it, I ll have a mac for sell, real cheap and I ll have to dicide if I try again with Mac . For me 3 years is to young to die.
thanks

now on leopard

snow is out leopard on. lets see if this machine stays stayble.
;)

problem solved

for those who may encounter a similar problem, without snow leopard my mac is back on track. One week since a clean installand not one freeze or unwanted shutdown since.
