When sending from primary (Earthlink hosted) mail account, mail goes to Sent mailbox and proper sound is made, but the mail is not delivered to sender. Gmail account does not have a problem from the MacBookPro--only the Earthlink-hosted account.

Using the same Earthlink-hosted mail account, this problem does NOT occur from iPhone 5. Using a different Mac, no problem there, either.

Earthlink has verified that all settings are correct.

With help of senior Apple tech, have reinstalled OSX and upgraded back to 10.6.8. Deleted and reinstalled the troubled mail account. They have also verified that all settings are correct, but it doesn't work.

They've submitted to engineering for a solve.

Anybody else have this challenge?

Thanks!

To check what is going on in the Main window of Mail, in Mail menu items, 'Window' and select 'Connection Doctor' . When the 'Connection Doctor' opens up select the small button 'Show Detail' and then click 'Check Again'. This will give you a print out of what the server is telling the Mac. You can use this to see what setting might be off.

Open Mail and go to Mail's Preferences and in there select the 'Accounts' mini-tab. In the Accounts tab select the Mail account you are have problems with and use the toggle bar for 'OutGoing Mail Server (SMPT). There you can verify the SMTP account and make settings for SMTP server settings.

Plus according to Earthlink SMP settings page Earthlink Email FAQ SMT: smtpauth.earthlink.net with Auth (username/password) on port 587.

Thanks, satcomer--

Unfortunately, we've tried all that you've suggested, with extensive sessions with both Earthlink and Apple support staffs. And to clarify, this is not earthlink.net, but smtpauth.hosting.earthlink.net, as they host my website and provide company email. We're currently working with Apple to solve the problem. It's peculiar in that we can send email from these accounts from other Macs running older operating system and older versions of Mail, just not our primary Mac. Earthlink and Apple have set up test accounts on other Macs with our username/password, and they work just fine.

And our primary Mac successfully sends when "replying to" a message, but not if it originates a message. When originating a new message from this account on the primary Mac, the swoosh sending sound is heard and the message appears in the Sent mailbox, but the message is not received on the other end.

Curiouser and Curiouser...
