Snowboard Design Critic

My first thread was deleted because it contained a link to a contest entry and that is soliciting which is not allowed. My bad I am remaking the thread to ask for simply a critic.

Ok this is my snowboard design. I was required to use the Never Summer and Warren Miller Playground logos. This is what I came up with. What does everyone think? What do you like/dislike, etc. Thanks.

I have now read the rules and don't believe I'm breaking them.... If i am please inform me and I will make any or all necessary changes including deleting this thread.

well, honestly i like it...but, it seems a little discombulated. The top seems to have a whole lot of depth to it (probably from the glows/gradients/other effects) and the bottom is very flat. I don't have an opinion on either, but i just wish their style was a little similar. does that make sense?

I agree, I also like it. A good overall design, but there is a contrast in style, the bottom portion seems more vector/retro based while the top is more modern edge.

Maybe look at trying to combine the two styles so there is more unity unless perhaps that was part of the design concept, to have a contrast?

Personally I can't say I like it but picking a design on something like a snowboard is an entirely personal thing.

As to the work, can't see anything majorly wrong with it, apart from maybe the differences in style but as said that could be what you were going for.

I like it, but maybe lose a bit of the fiddly playground apparatus at the bottom. It says playground - I don't think you need to illustrate that aspect as well.

I would try to make the 'never summer' logo part of the scene, like you did for the 'playground' one... (for example posted on another billboard).

My feeling as well. The top looks cool. The bottom looks cool. But the top and bottom together looks a little jumbled.

I'm assuming the "Never Summer" logo can't be tweaked, so maybe if you made the lower part of the board a bit less cartoony and a bit more hard edged the board would feel more unified.

I like the design, but one thing I agree about is maybe try to spruce up the bottom about, so it flows a little more.

Also, one thing I cant help but point out, is on the bill board, the bottom and top of the letters dont like up with the lines. Those lines that go horizontally are on billboards so you can slide the lettering in. So your picture makes it look like the letters are hanging by themselves. Doesnt flow with the whole billboard thing, looks like you just stuck letters over top. I would make it so the letters line up with the lines.

Well thanks to everyone for the feedback. I wish I would of thought of asking for some advice before submitting my design to the contest. I can see what you are saying of how the design could be more unified, but I kind of wanted the cartoony look to it.

As far as removing the playground scene, thats one thing I definitely wont be taking out. I really wanted to create a design of what "Playground" the movie was about to me. Playing in the snow. Everything from nice steep powder runs, to grinding stuff in a literal playground.

Anyways. Thanks for all the constructive criticism. The contest voting ends today, January 7th, and I'll let everyone know what the results are.
