It is one of those wrapped Windows games (world of warships). Everything was fine until the over night update. Basically it would bomb before entering the combat portion of the game. So I did what I always do with this particular game when it has issues. Full delete and reinstall.

Except the installer merely blinks and is gone. Tried a terminal sudo run of the installer too, but that ended with
CrossOver is unable to initialize a critical component.

Failed to run Python script '/Applications/World of Warships.app/Contents/Resources/libcxsetup-v3.py'. See console for errors.

The program will now exit.

In console I see entries similar to what is below.

The offical wrapper from Codeweavers is still in beta. I recommend you to wait or to file a bug report. I'm sure that it's getting fixed soon.

Since the wrapper is done by crossover which is based on wine, you could just try the latest wine version to get it running.
According to the wine app database the game seams to work fine. Just the installer seams to be a flaw, which ist not game-breaking.

To install wine I recommend you to install homebrew and then wine via terminal: brew install wine

Thank you for the suggestions, I have gone ahead and followed your suggestions. the version of wine I have is apparently the same offered currently. did register or attempted to do so at winehq but need to wait for confirmation email before I can post details of the issue I hit

So I was playing with running it through terminal again and hit this, does that last line mean something and can I fix it? The new Disk Utility no longer seems to have options to fix authorities or such

Update.

Well the problem appears to have been in /Library/Preferences Apparently values can get stuck there for applications and these can corrupt future installs of the same. So once I found these entries and deleted them i was able to get the installer to work and the game itself to work again.

stumbled upon the solution via google when I went far far down the rabbit hole and found others with different software that got cratered during an OS upgrade
