So anyways, what does firmware does Apple ship the iPhone with?

Is it the ones where you can unlock it? Or is it the ones that you CANNOT unlock it?

Really wondering since I want to start buying one for myself.

Also, how long do you guys think the hackers will unlock 1.1.3 for us?

they always ship with the latest one from their facilities, on the other hand you may found some old stock in the stores, but as of Today all of them may be 1.1.3.

Stealth SIM or Turbo SIM seems to be the way to go.

With the 16Gb iPhones out there many 8Gb owners may be selling their iPhones, so maybe you can get one with the old firmware/baseband/bootloader for a good price.
