Last year:
iPhone 11 Pro (64G/256G/512G): $999/$1149/$1349
11 Pro Max (64G/256G/512G): $1099/$1249/1449

iPhone 11 (64G/128G/256G) - $699/749/849

This year
iPhone 12 Pro (128G/256G/512G) - $999/$1099/$1299
12 Pro Max: (128G/256G/512G) - $1099/$1199/$1399

iphone 12 (64G/128G/256G)- $829/$879/$979

(I’m ignoring the AT&T/Verizon discount for the 12)

So for the pro, they increased the storage at the lowest price point and cut the other storage costs by $50. For the 12, they increased the cost by $130 across the board. Further, if you just want a phone with more than 64G storage, you now have the option to get the base pro model.

iPhone 11 was a huge hit due to the price, and it seems like Apple is trying to now push people back into the pro models. The mini is the big unknown here

Due to advances in technology storage size should increase without added costs in a similar way as cpu’s become more powerful.

In that sense its not really something that should warrant increase in price.

In the UK the 11 pro was £1049 for 64gb here afaik, now you have the 12 pro for £999 with 128gb. The 11 pro max was £1,149, 12 pro max £1099. So a £50 price cut either way for double the storage.

The 12 on the other hand is £799 64gb or £849 128 gb, compared to £729 for the 11 64gb or £779 for the 128gb.

Apple is smart - they put the 12 Mini in place of last year's 11 at the same price point.....

Then move everyone on up $100....

But then they have to pay for more expensive 5G hardware...

Simple. Because they sell more non-Pro units they can make more money this way and even up sell.

The 12 and 12pro are less different than the 11 and 11pro were
I disagree - I was going to get the 12 because I am coming from an 11 but when I saw the storage space being the same, the Pro is only $120 more which gives me LiDAR, better camera, and motion optics.

I am changing from the 12 to 12 Pro.

Here is another reason why I changed - Luke Miani iPhone 12 why you shouldn't:

I disagree with your disagreement. :) All three things you listed are camera related. The Pro always had different cameras and camera features, but also had a much better screen, smaller form factor, better build quality/materials etc. Now those are the same with the 12 and 12 Pro.
