This is seriously one of the most frustrating things about the iPhone IMO.
Are there plans to add this as a feature in a future firmware?

It's so annoying to just be sitting at my desk listening to music, and lifting my phone up to check for messages, just to have it rotate to landscape.

Thanks. :)

jailbroken iphones have a rotation toggle lock. incredibly useful and i'd probably hate my iphone if it didnt have it.

I defiantly agree that an option would be nice.

It's so annoying when you have to wait for it to change layout after it's accidentally changed.

I agree. This is one of the things I enjoy about 2.2.1. I can set the iPhone in my lap without the Text app changing to landscape.

It is very annoying when lying in bed and trying to browse the screen keeps switching on me. I usually lay on my side which makes things worse.

It was a bit frustrating at first but I adjusted my usage pattern so that now it doesn't seem to happen. I just make sure I hold it at a sufficient angle ensure it stays in the proper setting for me.

If you're up for jailbreaking, there's rotation inhibitor. Works very well.

I agree that it'd be a really nice feature that should be included with the OS.

Laying down in bed, listening to music the. It rotates to landscape with the useless side scroll of album art....FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU. but seriously it should be an option, it's already available on Nike + iPod.

you're just preaching to the choir here,
Ever since 3.0 came out I have been wanting it, the first thing I did when I upgraded was check for a landscape disabler.

when you have your phone in the cup holder of your car on its side, when checking if you have any emails, landscape!

if you feel like checking your email or text while laying down on your side, landscape!

aghhhh

I would love the addition of this feature. The only time I ever use landscape mode is when I'm reading something that goes really wide across the screen and I don't want to zoom and pan to read it. Other than that, I've mastered single thumb typing in portrait mode and literally never type in landscape mode. I understand many people like landscape keyboard in MMS, Mail and Safari so I don't criticize Apple for the expansion with 3.0, greater good and all. But I would very much enjoy the option to turn it off, or atleast limit it to certain apps, that would be neat.

Just jailbreak and get rotation inhibitor. Great app. I think it works on every application, I have yet to find one where it doesn't.
