So confused on what I need!

I am sorry if this isn't the right forum to ask this question. I need help deciding what kind of machine I need/want. I recently got a phantom drone and GoPro camera. Shooting in d-log on the drone and equivalent on the GoPro. I need to process the footage (don't know what software I will be using) I have a 2011 MacBook Air that clearly cannot handle this. I feel like a iMac will be best bang for the buck, but no portability. If I buy the new MacBook Pro 15in would that be able to handle my needs? My budget is 2-2.5k.

To me, if you have decent memory (16GB or more) and decent storage (SSD), and processor, I don't see a problem.
So the question then becomes on the exact spec you're looking at on the MacBook...

I was thinking

• 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
• 16GB 2133MHz memory
• 512GB PCIe-based SSD
• Radeon Pro 455 with 2 GB
• Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
• Touch Bar and Touch ID

And maybe a thunderbolt exterior hard drive.

Software, consider a monthly subscription to adobe premiere?
Premiere is really a great way to import your footage into a library and cut it up properly, and there's no problems with converting or needing plugins or apps like handbreak to get it the right size and etc, just kinda works.

As Floris points out I believe: think software too, not only hardware. Balance the power ;-)
