So deals are sually availible for new mac purchases?

After reading that an upgrade of the imacs is coming soon, i've decided to wait and get that rather than get something second hand.

I've seen on the UK store that they are doing a printer rebate offer. £20 for a nice HP wireless printer is very good value. That's cheaper than buying ink for my current printer.

I have also read stuff about free ipod's.

This is my first time buying a mac and wanted to know how prevalant these offers are and if they are year round or very rare.

the deals are part of back to school specials which end in september. They use them for clearing out stock on iPods prior to a refresh in september.

Even if their is a supply shortage of iMacs. I still don't see the update happening until after the Back-To-School program ends. Generally, new product releases happen in between Apple Store deals and purchase programs.

About the iPod Promo, its a promotion for students and its been happening every summer since 3-4 years.

For the printer, its not really a special promotion. From what i can remember, at least in Canada, the printer promo has been on for years. Student or not, summer or not. (Anyway, they make so much money on ink that i guess they don't care about giving printers)

As for the student discount on the computer itself, it is always on, you just don't get an iPod the rest of the year.

I also wouldn't expect the refresh until september, but it is possible it may happen in August. The first generation of Aluminum iMacs was released on August 7, 2007, IIRC (it was my first iMac).

Deals like back to school where you get a free iPod are actually pretty rare, specifically they happen once a year during the back to school season. This is because there are many people going off to college (or back to college) who need to upgrade their computers for the upcoming school year.

Apple targets those students with great deals, as a way of investing into the future. I am talking about the future of Apple of course, as people who grow up and go through school with macs will probably stay mac users for life and eventually buy macs for their kids as well.
