FEDEX safely delivered my Week 51 iMac I7 this evening.

The shipping box was in good shape, as was the apple box inside.

I held my breath and unpacked the unit and set it up on my desk. No cracks on the screen cover...whew.

So far, I've "migrated" my previous iMac onto this one without issues.

Mine has a WD1001FALS, rev. 20.404F20. I literally cannot hear it, and I have perfect hearing and perfect pitch. So far, so good.

Apple updates found a few, but not the so-called fix for the stuttering screen. So, perhaps it was preloaded before the machine left the factory? So far, no stutters, but the machine has only been on for 45 minutes.

I also set a pretty pure white screen background. If there is a yellow tinge, it seems to be concentrated in a straight line across the bottommost 1/8" of the screen. Hardly noticeable.

Well, we'll see. what happens.

Just think how much more fun you would've had and more relaxed you would've been had you just purchased the iMac and never came to MR and allowed them to soak your head with FUD. Anyways, sounds like things are good, enjoy.

P.S. Don't allow MR to turn you into a complete neurotic each time you make a new Apple purchase. Let your own eyes and ears make decisions without the aid of MR to lead you into problems you may have never noticed before.

I couldn't agree -- the unboxing experience should be a happy and exciting time. Unfortunately, many of the folks on here turn it into a terrifying experience...but that is the nature of internet forums. For example, I just bought a Canon 7D SLR camera. If you go and read some of the internet forums, all you'll find are tons of posts of "the 7D has focusing problems" and "the 7D has this problem or that". Well, I've unboxed my 7D and have put it through its paces, and it's a phenomenal camera with no issues at all. But reading the forums, one would think it's nothing but gloom and doom...

just copying over my wife's stuff to her new 27" iMac I just got her.
No issues here either, silent HD, no flicker, no yellow.
Having a bit of trouble getting mail and Entourage to accept passwords, but I think it's cause I have her PC logged in etc. as I copy crap over
PS CS4, MS 2008 all loaded up, working nice.
Man what a beast, Santa was good to her this year.

Congrats on the new machine. Week 51...wonder if the issues are sorted out? Plus you got a Western Digital drive, which should be the best one around...my machine vibrates like an old appliance, and has since I opened it a few days ago (going back for a refund).

This is exactly my point, you're LOOKING for problems when you don't even see them. Man, I'm honestly trying to help you, if you decide to ignore my advice, so be it but again, you will enjoy your new iMac a whole lot more if you don't come to MR asking for ways to find problems.

My question is, if your naked eyes don't see any flickering with normal use does it really matter? It shouldn't.

Yeah but your earlier claim of "FUD" being spread around here is a complete load. These iMacs have major problems, and people with no problems seem to be in the vast minority. Now week 51 could be problem free for all we know, if Apple has sorted out the issues.

But the only people spreading FUD around here, are the types trying to insist everything is rosy in general, and that the people with problems are anal retentive idiots.

Anyway, the guy appears to have a good machine so that's definitely good news, especially coupled with the fact it's one of the most recent builds.

I haven't made my order on a i5 yet, but after this past weeks of reading this problems i'm already paranoid lolol

Just to think that if i make my order now i'll be getting an imac with some flaw.

God damnit this is killing me.

Plus, i've searched in other mac forums and it's strange that there is no threads about a faulty imac.....unless all the people uses this forum to post there problem, which i don't think they do lol.

Although i'm starting to feel more confident due to the amount of threads with flawless imacs

You're post about people with no problems are in the vast minority is a complete load. You have NO idea how many iMacs came shipped with issues. The people that post here with problems certainly doesn't represent even 1/10th of 1% of the people that bought iMacs. Your whole post is one of my examples of people spreading FUD. You're just posting your own conclusions based on posts on MR. News flash, MR hardly represents a fraction of Apple's customers, and before you reply saying that several other forum on the internet claim the iMac has had issues as well, keep in mind the same people create accounts on multiple forums.
Now, I certainly am not denying the iMac has problems but MAJOR? I don't think so. If you're counting iMacs shipping with broken screens, that's from shipping and possibly Apple's poor packing but that not a defect. The yellow tinge and flickering, I would hardly call them MAJOR. I would venture to say that you are definitely wrong about people with no problems being in the vast minority.

OP, be proud of yourself for being an educated consumer, whatever anyone might say. It's ALWAYS better to know than not know when it comes to issues with a big purchase, because sooner or later, you WILL discover issues. It's better to know about them ahead of time and know what to look for and rule them out while you're still in the exchange/return period. Giving the consumer more information is NEVER a bad thing, and anyone that says otherwise is either a corporate tool or sympathiser. As consumers, it is OUR bottom line that matters, NOT the company's.
