I'm a die-hard Windows/Linux user. I've never used a Mac in my life. But I was intrigued by the M1 Macs, and the price point of the Minis was reasonable so I thought I'd try one. It arrived today and I spent the afternoon getting it set up.

I thought it'd be a hassle, but I got my entire workflow including MS Office, Obsidian and my development environment set up without resorting to Rosetta 2. It's snappy. I still haven't done heavy compiles on it. But will soon.

There are a few things I still need to workout. Like does the back mouse button not go back in the file explorer? And when I press end it's paging down rather than going to the end of the line in some applications (like this forum)

But I consider those tweaks I still have to make.

All in all I say, "Well done Apple, I may have been wrong about you"

Not bad for Apple's first attempt at ARM macOS, it should only get better as more higher end Apple Sillicon Macs
are released.

But it still is early days so there will be crashes and software incompatibles. That's why I still kept my 16" i7 MacBook Pro. By the end of this year I plan to get the updated 16" or 14". Can't wait for them to come out.
