So fed up with my mac!

I bought a 24" iMac last march. Was never happy with it. Seemed very slow and unresponsive. After a few months it started having kernal panics. Then it would not turn on. Took it to apple who after a week said it was faulty ram and replaced it. 2 months later I have the same problems. Kernal panics for 2 days now it won't start. I've booked it in for tomorrow but I really am so fed up with this. What can I say to the genius?? I really don't want fobbed off again with the " it's the ram". It's clearly not as it was replaced and I'm still having the same problems. I think the mac has been faulty since day one but know this is very hard to prove!

Appeal to lemon law and demand a brand new one.

You can say [politely] that previoulsy you were told that the RAM was diagnosed as faulty and was replaced, but now you are having the same problems again.

There are no lemon laws for computers.

When I turn my mac on all I get is 3 loud beeps. I've read that is a problem with the ram. But that's exactly what happened the last time aswell. Could this be a faulty motherboard?? Can't understand why the genuis didn't fully investigate the problem.

It could be. "Diagnosing problems" isn't always a straightforward process. Something having to do with the logic board could be causing the RAM to fail I guess, but that's not common and wouldn't be immediately obvious to any technician.

It sounds like he did. It's not as if the problem is glaring you in the face. Most likely, the tech swapped the RAM and the system started working. Would you rather they have held your iMac for the 2 months to see if it failed again? It could definitely be the logic board, especially since the problem has returned.

Yea it's American thing. You could still use it by saying that your iMac is a lemon as the repair didn't fix its problem. Tell the genius to fully investigate it and ask him to replace it with a brand new one if the repair doesn't fix your problems (you may want to do it literally). Could be a logic board but sometimes even replacing it doesn't fix problems

I know what your saying. The mac must have ran fine on the tests the do after replacing the ram. But if that happens again and in another 2 months the problem comes back, I'll be out of the 1 year warranty!!
I also told him about other minor faults that I'm sure are connected.
The os is very slow at times. Beach ball appears often mostly within iTunes when watching video podcasts or syncing with my iPhone. I've done an erase and install with both leopard and snow leopard. Still the same.
So it's defo a hardware issue and I think it's been like that out of the box. I had my last iMac for 3 years without one problem.

Just back from the apple store. The genius was amazed that only the ram was replaced the last time. As soon as he tried to turn it on he knew the logic board was faulty. He said he was really sorry for all the hassle and would get it fixed asap. !!!

whatever happens .... invest in AppleCare ASAP...you will have two additional years of peace...
