Unless you own a mac hardware,

is it entirely impossible to organize photos into category in iPad?

I find it very frustrating that you cannot organize photos in iPad. There's no point in buying Camera Connectors Kit if you cannot organize pictures in PC

Has anyone been able to cope with this issue?

What I had to do was to group the photos in "my pictures" on the pc according to catagory or "album". You can move selected photos into a new folder titled whatever u wish, but I preferred to only copy them so as not to disturb my original grouping. Then when syncing to itunes just check only specified folders to sync and not all photos. The folders should then appear in photos on the ipad as separate albums according to your grouping with the same title u used for the folder set up in my pictures. There may be other ways but I'm not that savvy.

All my photos on my Mac are organized into folders with the names of folders being the date of when the photos were taken. I agree that the organization on the iPad is lacking - the good thing that has come from it is that my entire photo collection is now very organized on my Mac.

Hmm looks like I will have to use my Mac from now on...
Thanks for the replies!! :)

The photos app is VERY basic - you can't even rotate a picture!

It's very frustrating that you can manipulate an image by pinching finger and thumb over it but it reverts to its original orientation when you let go!

Yeah, this is definitely a drawback. Sometimes when I do screen caps it'll be in the wrong orientation in photos.

Dude, you really don't need a mac for this. I suppose if you wanted you organize them in iPhoto, yeah. But I've a Mac and I still have a folder with sub-folders labeled by category and just sync those to the pad. Then they show up in those albums in the photo app. Maybe annoying if you don't want your photos in different folders, but I separate the ones I want on my iPad anyway.

I'm hoping for an "iPhoto for iPad" announcement together with iOS4 in the fall.
Seems likely given the mobile versions of iWorks and recently iMovie.

iPad could be a great camera companion gadget

If I do a screenshot in landscape orientation it will always be the wrong way.. :(
As mentioned in another thread, I would love to be able to organize photos on the ipad itself... keeping fingers crossed for iOS4

Yes. This would be awesome. I've so many photos I save from the web that I'd love to not have to import to my Mac, then organize into iPhoto or folders. The ability to arrange, edit, etc. photos on the iPad would be great. As mentioned above, iPhoto for iPad in iOS4 would be the answer! (though I'm not extremely hopeful about it coming) iPhone 4 doesn't have this ability, but the iPad's screen real estate seems more appropriate. Then again, I thought iMovie for iPad seemed natural too, aside from not having a video input.

We'll see, I guess. Only time will tell.

Agree. I Would like more user options in the photo app. Like being able to move pictures into a particular photo I don't think is asking for too much.

Also, I hate how little customization you can do with the photo frame option as well. It scrolls the picture too quick and there's no way of adjusting that.

Thanks for your response!

I managed to create another folder and put sub-folders in them and synced the photos to that folder. Looks like sub-folders now create categories as 'albums' in iPad but it's very inconvenient.

Apple should create more functions for Photos app for iPad definitely, so that I can rotate pictures, resize or crop photos or create and move pictures into customized albums...!!

YES - - me too, hoping & waiting for this since the iPad was launched! I really hate having to spend a lot of time syncing to computer, importing photos from iPad to iPhoto, creating new albums there, RE-importing the, back to iPad, etc. etc. -- especially since all of this could be so easily done on the iPad. We already are able to select individual images in the Camera roll with little check marks, and copy them to iPad's clipboard; so it really would not take much to offer the further ability to create a new album ON the iPad & copy the images there.

PLEASE, Apple! (Yes, I have already submitted this feedback to Apple, months ago, by phone during a conversation with a Product Specialist).

If anyone here likes this idea & would be willing to submit it to Apple as a feature request, here's a link at apple.com where you can do so:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Thanks for helping with this!

Yes this is annoying. Its weird because I have the camera connection kit, and any picture you import will give you the ability to rotate as well as delete. Pretty annoying that they could not extend this atleast to the rest of your pic library....

I've just sent a feedback to Apple about this topic.
Also having the Camera Connection Kit, it's absurd that you have to go through your Mac, iPhoto and then iTunes to adjust, manage and organize your photos.

Thanks, lozpop!
I wonder how we can get a lot of people who would be interested in submitting this feature request? Seems like having many people all asking for the same thing would help a lot, in getting the issue to be considered & addressed -- since I'm sure Apple gets many requests.

I suppose one thing we could do here on MacRumors would be to start a poll, asking how many people would LIKE to have this feature: just the simple ability to select individual images in the iPad Camera roll & create new albums with them, ON the iPad. Then, there would be more awareness of this as a reasonable option to have; and those people who respond to the poll could be requested to use the apple.com feedback link to actually request the feature.

I need to go eat right now -- is there anyone here who would be able & willing to launch such a poll here on MacRumors.com?
Thanks again for the help!
