I didn't find it out it was out until today. LOL. RIP after this release, imo.

Anyone tried it? Thoughts?

I've never used GoLive, but I've been thinking about using it as a way to create basic layouts, that I can use in Dreamweaver. Any opinions of this idea? How's the code? Is it pretty easy to center a fixed or liquid layout?

DW CS3 is awful!

it was so bad it made me switch to coda full time!

Why are they keeping GoLive, i thought they dumped it for DW?
Adobe promised a Universal version for GoLive users... they kept their promise. It was non-Adobe people who suggested that there wasn't going to be another version of GoLive.

For me this is all rather quaint... I needed the upgrade from GoLive 5.0 to 6.0 for Mac OS X, but haven't had any pressing need to continue updating since (I only just got 7.0 along with the Creative Suite a few months ago). It could be quite some time before I have a need for an Intel native version (though it is nice to know that one exist now) and even longer (like years from now) after that before I reach a point where I would need something else.

The idea of handing software companies money just because they came out with a new version of their software seems a little backwards to me.

Until they honestly have something more compelling than what I already have, what I have already is just fine.

Think of it as Dreamweaver and Premiere Elements in one app. I've found the combination (plus the format links to other Adobe apps) to be quite nice.

But beyond that, we all suffer when one app takes over an area of software. I feel most sorry for Dreamweaver users because they mistakenly think that because their app survived they must have won something. What they have most likely gotten is corporate apathy which comes from the lack of competition. It is the same apathy that Windows users have been left with since the last of the non-Microsoft PC operating systems were produced. Even now, Microsoft would rather attack Linux and other threats to Windows by means of user lock-in (via file formats) than by actually adding value to their products.

So why didn't Dreamweaver users realize this rather than cheering the demise of GoLive? I offer this exchange from the movie Men in Black:
Jay: Why the big secret? People are smart, they can handle it.

Kay: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it.

I'm just after a descent WYSIWYG way to create standards-compliant CSS-based layouts. I'm guessing GoLive 7 probably creates table-based layouts.

Dreamweaver is becoming too code-view dependent, imo. I'll gladly continue using it for ColdFusion programming, and I'd probably use it to finish off layouts created in GoLive... Just looking for a good way to create the layouts.

I know the code, and can use it just fine. It's just that, after 12 years of doing this, I'm finding the code less and less interesting every day. It's been long enough now that a descent design app should exist.

curious, what did you find so terrible? the main thing that annoyed me was, when creating long scripts in code view, everytime i switched to design view it would crash. I fixed that though...dont use design view...

The slowness!
I always used split view, because I work on a site with many developers, the pages get very code intense! Not clean code either, lots of tables, and font tags.

So when I tried to select some part of the page (so that it would highlight that part in the code; My favorite feature of DW) I would always get the pinwheel of death!

CS3 is too bulky! they are typing too hard to integrate it with other CS applications!

Dreamweaver takes longer to load up now that Photoshop does! (but PS was sped up a lot with CS3)

I find coda a much better dev app, due to it amazing load time!

Go Live 9

I really enjoy this new version. I have been using GoLive since it was Cyberstudio way back when. I think it fits better with CS3 rather than Dw does myself. I will be using it until I can't.

DW has the Spry framework included; this alone might make the switch worthwhile.

BTW, it's interesting that GoLive 9.0 has the Adobe CS3 interface, while DW still sports the (ugly) Aqua Macromedia interface. (I'm referring the demos here; I haven't upgraded to CS3 yet.)
