I was getting a bit bored with my old iPhone 7. It had a new battery fitted just in October and it was still draining even after factory reset so I had a look around, didn't want to spend a fortune on a phone so the Honor 8x seemed a decent enough buy at £220.

Been using it a few days now and I would say its a definite upgrade to the iPhone 7. The screen is massive and vibrant. Its certainly as fast as my iPhone 7, camera much better and it looks beautiful. Battery life I could get 2 days maybe 3 with lighter use, unlike 1 day on my iPhone 7.

I was a bit nervous buying from one of these cheap manufacturers but so far I am impressed.

Honor is the sub brand of Huawei, and Honor 8X is the cousin of Huawei Nova 3i. I like Honor as a brand as they are trying to compete with the likes of Xiaomi (thus aggressive pricing), and they are not afraid putting 128GB storage on their mid rangers (most other Chinese OEMs maxed at 64GB on their mid range).

Having said that, it’s not all rosy. Huawei/Honor EMUI has too many bloatware and junkware. Their aesthetics also mimics iOS, which one might not like. Updates are questionable for their mid rangers (eg. Android Pie is only confirmed for their flagship Kirin 970 devices).

Still, if one is looking for highest capacity phone for the dollar, it’s hard to beat them. The only thing left is if you trust Huawei or not.
