So I picked up a 6,1 locally for 1K. It is the 6-core 16GB 512GB model but had D700's in it. the unit itself is clean with minimal dust and functions fairly well.

early comparisons are:

my 5,1 currently beats it in every way except the 6,1 has slightly faster ram speed @ 1866 vs 1333

My 5,1 (Mid 2012)
2x 3.46GHz x5690's
96GB Samsung DDR3 triple channel
2TB Saberant Rocket NVMe in a cheap adapter
Gigabyte r9 280x mac EFI flashed (weakest of 3 cards I own) RX580, Vega 7 (I swap between these for testing)
1TB Crucial SSD (Windows gaming Drive)
AC WIFI upgrade with Bluetooth 4.2
4 port USB 3 Card (inatek KT4004)
4 port Sonnet Allegro Pro USB 3.2 Card (Four SuperSpeed 10Gbps USB Connectors)

So I have a 12 core cpu and 64 GB of ram on the way and will complete a full set of tests and benchmarks, If anyone here wants to see any specific comparison test's feel free to drop it here and Ill compare them, I expect the upgrades to be completed sometime next week.

what seems better on the 6,1 so far is apple watch unlock seems slightly faster, I think this is due to the poor Bluetooth reception of the 5,1 which can be fixed I assume. oh and the 6,1 natively supports Catalina. the 6,1 currently boots faster but the read and write speed are slower once booted. I think that's it.

That’s a really good deal. Don’t forget that the 6,1 actually has twice the memory bandwidth over the 5,1. It’s quad channel. And of course support for new software is being dropped from the 5,1 due to lack of CPU instructions.

I received all the parts and finished the 6,1 build. I only had a little time to complete some of the benchmarks.
BruceX Benchmark 5k export to ProRes 422 took 13.30 seconds. Most comparison test have been done by many others (like barefeets) so im not sure if anyone really wants any comparisons here. If anyone wants to see anything specific let me know. The fact that the 5,1 has PCI'e slots makes its kind of a no brainer since you can have better Graphics and faster Storage. Although I assume for photoshop maybe the 6,1 is better. I'll end up selling the 6,1 after a short period of testing. the profits will go towards my 7,1 fund
