Are you kidding?
And I suppose that Apple has moved to cheap plastics in their consumer laptops because it's "better?"

Release now, patch later.
Thanks, guys, for calling me on that. I knew what I meant, but I didn't express it clearly at all. What I should have said was that the artificial construct developed for financial reporting purposes has little-to-no effect on a company's product release schedule (unless something that is widely expected at a certain date is delayed).
The Photokina announcement (whatever it may be, expected or unexpected) doesn't have a relation to the end of Apple's financial quarter. If Apple's financial quarter had ended on the 23rd instead of the 30th, would that have changed the date of their announcement? I submit that it would have had no effect whatsoever.
Whether they release it a week before the end of the quarter and book some sales figures for the current quarter or introduce it after the end of the quarter and push all sales into the next quarter, they're basically going to sell the same number of units of widgets. Analysts and investors (the smart ones, at least, which includes the vast majority of the stock-moving power) understand that and won't react any differently whether the release comes before or after the end of the financial quarter.
When a product has been announced for a certain quarter by a company and isn't delivered, that causes problems for investors and analysts. But Apple hasn't promised anything to anyone here, so the market will respond accordingly to the announcement, whenever it comes.
