My work applications are all web based, and I need to have multiple browser windows and tabs open.
Suddenly all kinds of issues started to pour in.

- Safari often crash when I try to open/load something in a new tab/window.
- Magic keyboard (the desktop one), often won't registrer certain keys, but other keys work.
- Stage Manager... stages sometime swap windows with each other.
- External monitor. Certain app mirrors to external monitor, I have no idea if there is a settings or not for this.

In short, It's a bug fest like no other.

The first issue may have been a glitch in the software, i would have restarted or restored it to make sure that was wiped. Could be that for some reason the webpage was using too much of the resources?

Would definitely recommend trying the magic keyboard for the iPad Pro instead. That was designed specifically for the iPad Pro and significantly elevated my experience. The desktop magic keyboard has not been updated in years and likely wouldnt work as well on the iPad instead of a mac.

Stage manager is a learning curve. I do love the increased level of multitasking, but the apps switching is a bit annoying at first. You have to get used to dragging and dropping the apps to add them to your workspace instead of clicking to open. Also its a max of 4 apps at once.

Yeah this I had trouble with. I think only certain apps are designed for a second monitor. Thats more of an app developer problem to fix.

I tried and loved the M4 iPad Pro myself, but it did not work for my entire workflow. I ended up returning it for reasons kind of like yours where my expectations required more than could be delivered. Hoping that iPadOS keeps moving towards having some more of the basic features in macOS (ex. adding .mp3 files to my Apple Music library, and showing/hiding hidden files in Files app).

If you have a MK you can shift+click and the app will be added to your current window alongside your other open apps. Much easier than dragging and dropping.

I find this hard to believe as I use the iPad every day and on office days as my only device.
Only thing I can’t do is some archaic software from 1996 that is still lingering around, unfortunately.

I can do that with my logi mechanical keyboard and every lousy dell keyboard at work as well.

Have not run into the first three issues (I have 13" M4 w/MKB) and the last is a developer issue with implementation.

God I hate iOS/iPadOS Safari. I have 16GB of memory - why are you reloading tabs all the time??
This is my biggest gripe too. One day I was filling out a web form in Safari and probably spent a half-hour composing a paragraph, making sure it was clear and concise. Swiped to a different app that was already open and on the screen I needed to reference something, and swiped back to Safari. *POOF!* Everything I spent so much time on was gone.

OP here. Been learning a lot since the post.
Seems like most of the mentioned issues and others around it are related to bugs and when using stage manager on an external monitor.
Updated to 18.2 beta, and stopped using external monitor, and most of the problems went away.

Google Sheet (web app) are still quite unstable with Safari. Solution was using Chrome.

People have shown on this forum that that the iPad can quite usefully be employed for work depending upon your use case. It wasn't intended to not be used for work applications.
Yeah, but there are also a lot of people who try and get frustrated due to the limitations, which aren't even limitations due to hardware.

At the end of the day this isn't only true of iPadOS. I can say this very thing about Linux - very powerful, very capable, but limited because I need Excel and Excel features that are only in the Windows version.

I suspect Safari can’t even use the memory. It’s hugely annoying on ALL Apple devices.
I’m literally afraid to move off the app sometimes as you just know it will reset the tab.

That isn’t just safari, as many websites do this perfectly. So it might be a badly written website. Annoying nonetheless, but not necessarily safaris fault.

Odd, as the engine in chrome on iOS is safari webkit. Apple doesn’t allow another browser. Well, in the EU it does since 17.4 but I can’t imagine anybody has been able to develop it in that short period.
