But I just realized this morning that I have the iWork '08 software. I am guessing that I should get the '09 version, but I am wondering since its 2010 if there will be a new version coming along soon.

I wonder if its required to share docs with the iPad. I would hate to buy the 09 stuff just to see it updated in the next few weeks...

Looked but I could find no listed requirement for iWork ---> iWork compatibility. I haver 09' and I am (fairly) sure it was completly compatible with 08 (backward and forward). YMMV. I guess you're SOL until we get some more info...BUT...upgrades for iWork 09' are cheap...check ebay.
