Sure, it's pretty hot, but not completely unbearable. The, the bottom could burn my legs, but I wear pants, so I'm not to worried. I then heard my first moo. While it doesn't bother me too much, should I be worried?

I mean, is a 109.4 degree temp normal for a Macbook? I know it's hot, but again, is it hot for a Macbook? If I'm okay with it, should I bother taking it to get looked at?

I just downloaded a widget that is measuring my SMART Disk Toshiba....something. Is there a widget that is more universally used by you macrumor people? As I will try that...

109F isnt bad at all. compared to others.

my powerbook generally will be around the mid 80s to mid 90s under light use, and when not connected to the power brick.

under heavy use and when connected to the AC adapter, as well as an external display, ive seen temperatures of 133F

So any chance we'll see a firmware update to fix the moo?

It seems like it could be easy for apple to make a nice software hack to tell the fan not to go on and off so often...

It seems like you are measuring the harddrive temp, and not the CPU temp. You should download CoreDuoTemp, it will tell you the temperature of your core duo CPU, and it's likely much higher than 109 degrees...

Well, I played the Call of Duty 2 Demo for about ten minutes after dling the CoreDuoTemp, and sure enough, it puts my temp at 140F. I have the computer on my lap, and I'm okay. So, since it sounds normal, I guess I'll just deal with it. However, I'd love to get rid of this moo...

You may want to try the advice below from the Mac Book Mooo Fix thread:

Macrumors said:

MacRumors user "netdog" reports that he has successfully been able to get rid of his MacBook's "moo" issue by resetting his Power Management Unit (PMU). The steps he took were:

1. Shutdown and disconnect power.
2. Remove battery.
3. Hold down power button for more than 5 seconds.
4. Reinsert battery and reconnect power.
5. Boot.

Detailed information on resetting the PMU on MacBook and MacBook Pros is available via Apple's Support site. Resetting the PMU should only be considered in last-case scenarios, and should not be done more than once every 48 hours.

Disclaimer: Users should proceed at their own risk, as MacRumors cannot be held liable for damages that may be caused by following the instructions listed above. MacRumors has not independently tested the above procedure as such resources are unavailable, but the tip is rather offered as a courtesy. Users are strongly encouraged to contact their AppleCare support representative and consult Apple's documentation for guidance if following the aforementioned steps.

Using CoreDuoTemp, my MB is at 125F and it's been on for many, many hours. It's a little cooler than my old PB, but not much. Fortunately it's very quiet, though!

well my MB runs at a peak of 192 degrees F when i use the yes > /dev/null command in the terminal (two shells for the 2 processors)... but eventually the fans kick in and take it back down to 183 or near enough to (thats 84 degrees c for us in the scientific nations :p) Idle temp with moderate usage (itunes firefox word and adium running) is 138 or ~59 degrees celsius...

is this hot? its easily bearable but is this unusually hot?

i know i was "sort of" being sarcastic about it. realistically it isnt bad at all. its just the Aluminum casing actually got outrageously hot to the touch on the bottom and i thought it had burned me lol. even though the sensor read 122.5

i still kind of want a macbook, but i <3 this powerbook so much....

Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you? I really have to wonder why they're not being more responsive about the issue. Probably too busy dealing with defective logic boards and discoloration.

Anyway, as others have said, 109 F is not bad at all. In fact, it's really quite cool. I'm at 151 F right now, and that's pretty normal for my MB under a normal load.
