We all know by now that Apple loves breaking things that work when trying to make so-called "improvements" no one asked for and no one wants.

("No one" ignoring the usual sycophants who keep saying iOS is perfect, there was never any memory throttling and no iPhone was ever bent.)

Now, looks like the Music app is broken. The design has been completely ridiculous since the first iOS 11 "upgrade", but now, whenever we close the Music app, opening it again makes the app restart on shuffle and on a random song, instead of continuing from the music that was been playing when the app was closed.

("Just turn shuffle off" - no, Sherlock, I'm not talking about not being able to find the option to turn shuffle off. As ridiculously hidden as it is, I'm talking about turning it off, listening to some songs, and then shuffle going back on automatically.)

Is anyone else seeing this, other than the rose-colored-glass people who couldn't see a flaw in iOS even if Steve Job's dead body hit them on the head with it?

Lol at the responses but I also haven’t seen this issue (although I don’t often shuffle).

What version are you running? One thing I have noticed is the “Not Playing” option showing up on app restart but if you click play it’ll pick up on the last track I was playing in the specific album. Weirdly enough it won’t show the tracks as “Up Next” until *after* you’ve resumed playing (i.e. it’ll only list “Not Playing”).

But it seems to depend on how the app was closed: force close or reboot due to crashing. If it crashed it’ll pick up the last album/track you played although it shows “Not Playing”. If you force closed the app and click play it’ll just shuffle your entire library.

I’m using Apple Music btw

Okay.. I think I got it.. yes it happens with me. Play music, turn shuffle off, close app(kill it) then go back in it, tap the play on not playing, and shuffle is back on..

I found that instead of taping the play button on the not playing tab, if you manually select a song, shuffle does not turn on..

And yea, that’s stupidity... they could have made it much simpler, but don’t know what they thought

That's basically what happens to me all the time. Even without force closing, just waiting a few minutes and clicking on play makes the app shuffle everything.

True, I just tried that and the same thing happened here.

It's still a loss in functionality - it used to be that, tapping play, it would resume from where you had stopped. Same with opening the music list - it used to open where you had left it, now it opens at the top.

He’s only getting these kind of responses due to his wording of the original post...you know, arrogant, sarcastic, patronising etc.

Not really. I'm getting angry replies for "daring" to claim that Apple is not perfect and that there's something wrong with their Music app. Some people are only willing to admit Apple's failures after Apple has fixed them (or tried to).

I'd love to discuss this topic as I've suffered from this myself. Just not in this thread. I don't care for the hostile tone it sets.

Go ahead, make a new topic about it. Sycophants will jump on your neck and say you're crazy for saying something is wrong.

Almost always, when there is a “gate” mentioned, it is one person complaining about one thing and pretending like their opinion is a massive, consumer-wide complaint that Apple apparently refuses to acknowledge.

Pro-tip: when you use “gate”, you lose all credibility with most users here.

Hmmm . It definitely has something to do with the “Not Playing” function because before you’d have to actually select a track/album/shuffle all to start playing music. It would *sometimes* pull up the previous played track/album but mostly it just started playing the first track in your library (like how it used to connect to Bluetooth in your car and automatically play the first song ).

I think it’ll just have to be tweaked like the rest of the music app because now that I’m checking, you’re right - it only shuffles everything which is kinda weird.
