Its iOS 9 but only 6S allows you to say Hey Siri without needing to plug the phone in.

So you can just say, "Her Siri..." and Siri will recognize what your saying.

As said, it's an iOS 9 feature. The 6 and 6 Plus will both allow you to train Siri to your voice, but "Hey Siri" will only work when the phone is plugged in. With the 6s and 6s Plus, in addition to training Siri to your voice, "Hey Siri" will work at all times, plugged in or not.

Yea, not sure why its an iPhone 6S feature.

They say its because the M9 chip is always on.

Don't understand why when you plug in the iPhone 6, the M8 chip can do Hey Siri but when its not, it can't.

From what I understand, it is necessary to have a separate processor or co-processor to handle this feature as using a single processor is apparently very heavy on the battery. Makes sense that the iPhone 6 has to be plugged in to use the feature because then battery life doesn't take a hit. On the 6s, "Hey Siri" is handled by the always-on M9 motion co-processor, which i'm sure Apple has optimized so it doesn't have an affect on battery life. The M8 chip in the iPhone 6 isn't always-on and it would assumedly negatively affect the battery life if it were.

The M8 isnt designed to work with Hey Siri when not plugged in. The M9 just got the power efficiency to do it without remote power.

I enabled the HeySiri command on my ios8-jailbreak (6+) it was a nealy not recognizable battery drain. but.. the battery drain was there. I think the battery drain with Always-on-Hey-Siri is the Reason why Apple disabled it for older the devices.

But.. They also want to give you all a reason to buy the new iPhone.
