in the movie Independence Day. :D A bunch of us friends were watching the movie last night and I noticed the laptop that he was using throughout the movie was an Apple. I'm not up to speed on my Apple computer history, so I'm not sure what model it was or anything, but it's great to see! Just thought I'd share...cheers!

The other day I was reading an article about macs and Steve Jobs and the many apple fans there are and they said that in the Mission Impossible movie (I can't remember which one) the good guys use Macs and the bad guys use PCs:p

A little Apple history...

1996: Apple unveils a $15 million tie-in with Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible film starring Tom Cruise. The promotion featured television and print advertisements, a special web site, and cosponsorship of the movie's premiere. The choice of a film named Mission: Impossible seemed particularly ironic, since Apple had just reported its largest loss ever-$740 million for the second quarter-and some wags commented that newly installed CEO Gilbert F. Amelio was facing a task more daunting than any mission Mr. Phelps had ever accepted. Even though Tom Cruise used a PowerBook 5300c in the movie, the tie-in was a failure because it was generating demand for a product that dealers didn't have in stock due to a four-month-long recall over the possibility of exploding batteries.

That's so dumb. Why would you advertise something you can't sell... pretty dumb.. I'm guessing Steve Jobs didn't work at :apple: at that time.

You don't remember the PowerBook ad campaign?

"You better hope you got the right computer...

I always notice Macs in movies and TV shows. Reminds me of a quote from Roger Ebert:

"Macs turn up in the movies all the time -- not so much because of product placement, but because so many movie people use them and like them. A historian of the future, counting all the on-screen computers between 1983 and today, would likely conclude that Macs represented 90 percent of the computer market.

Alas, this is not so. But since any reasonable person would choose a Mac over a PC, Apple's market share does provide us with an accurate reading of the percentage of reasonable people in our society."

:apple:

I remember reading that as part of some movie mistakes, since in the scene towards the end where the computer dude was transferring some files to aliens, there are clearly some issues with compatibility here, since we don't know what the aliens were using

If you're basing that on the infallability of Steve J, mmm... interesting theory, he's made some 'interesting' decisions in the past like luring away John Sculley from Pepsi to become Apple's CEO.
