Now that there are many different methods of jailbreaking your i(device) using Blackra1n, Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze and Pwnage Tools. And there have been no updates on the Cydia homepage with regards to jailreaking on 3.1.2! From the selection which in your opinion of the 4 has been more stable and reliable?

Window users (myself included!) were more or less stuck on Blackra1n if the i(device) is on the 3.1.2 firmware until now! Or had to access a Mac for Pwnage tool and Mac users were flexible to the latter of the two. Blackra1n is a great method where there have been reports of a few bugs nevertheless I personally salute GeoHot for his work!

Due to the long awaited release of Redsn0w 0.9 Beta (hail Musclenerd!!) this has been quoted as the best method of jailbreaking where it doesn’t require a custom restore and has successful feedback in the forums (apart from a few issues with the iphone 3GS which is now resolved!!).

However, I notice that there is very little mention of sn0wbreeze on the Mac Rumours forums where there has been almost 28,000 download hits, heard it were due to copyright infringements but not sure if that has been sorted out yet! Has anyone tried sn0wbreeze if so what is the opinion of this method of jailbreaking? I hear that sn0wbreeze has a more secured method of jailbreaking than redsn0w and blackra1n (as quoted in this link: http://www.ihackintosh.com/2010/01/confused-between-sn0wbreeze-and-redsn0w/)

I am interested to hear of your jailbreaking methods and problems (if any). In the meantime am off to hack my PS3!!

hmmm... interested to see some of the replies in here!

I jailbroke my phone using pwnage tool, was easy, kind of took a while, but you just click a few buttons and wait it out. I have also done numerous friends devices using blackra1n. it is definitely much faster, maybe slightly simpler than pwnage tool, but it has the 3gs tethering issue which sucks, but as long as you don't have a newer 3gs, i'd say just do this because it's pretty damn simple.

Haven't tried either of the other 2.

That depends entirely on your situation:

If you have an original iPhone, you should upgrade to 3.1.2 and use Redsn0w to both jailbreak and unlock your phone.

If you have a 3G or 3GS and you currently have OS 3.0.x, you should use PwnageTool to create a custom firmware and use that to upgrade your device. This will preserve your baseband for the ultrasn0w unlock.

If you already have 3.1.2, you should use Redsn0w to jailbreak. Unfortunately, you will have to use blacksn0w to unlock.

I'm on Windows 7 and for me blackra1n is by far the simplest and quickest. I also like this for unlocking iphones but I definitely recommend blackra1n. The reason I like it the most is not only because it is very fast, but you do not have to worry about putting the iPhone into DFU mode because the program does that for you.

I had jailbroken my Iphone 6 months back. Since then i have not upgraded the firmware nor jailbreak technique.
I am using a Iphone 3GS, firmware version is 3.0.1 (7A400), which is jailbroken.
Never had a problem, but wanted to upgrade to new firmware as i am having frequent call drops also receive complains from friends who keep telling me that.. whenever they call me i never reply (but i never seem to receive calls).

What shud i do next to get the upgraded firmware and yet it remains jailbroken.. and prefer that the current data (themes plugins still stay).
