So my 1 year old son drop my 24'' iMac on the floor today

When I got home from lunch today I noticed that my Imac was unplugged. I thought nothing of it, so I eat my lunch then after I plug it back in and noticed a weird sound and the screen was also staying plain white. Then a box came up. I restarted and put my snow leopard disk in and tried to see if I could repair my hard drive, but it was a no go. My mac didn't even pick it up, so I knew I was 100% sure it was the hard drive. I said to myself hmm this shouldn't be to hard and then I youtubed a video and was amazed how much you had to do. Well I went out and pick up a 1TB hard drive. Well that was a fun experience installing this hard drive and it will be the first and I hope the last time I have to install a hard drive into this computer.

Yea I know lol. It fell on carpet, but I also think it hit my computer chair. I"m on it right now and so far so good. I hope that is the only problem lol
 
Well...

Last week, my 2 1/2 year old tipped mine over to a lovely face down position. Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky. I admit, it was my own fault. I set it down on the carpet while I was moving stuff around, which probably wasn't the smartest idea. Anyway, before I knew it my computer was face down. It probably would have been fine if my mouse hadn't been sitting right where the display met the floor (I have an earlier model, so there's no glass protecting it).

On the plus side with this incident - - it's a good excuse to buy one of the amazing new 27" iMacs now that they've got the screen issues under control!
 
My kids broke many expensive things as they were growing up. We all survived and they are a great source of joy now in my old age. (They bought me a new iMac for my birthday.:D )
 
iMacs are easy to replace. When younger my brother and I managed to break a whole bunch of my Dad's rare record collection, built up over two decades. He wasn't happy.

Anyway, well done on the speedy repair :)
 
FWIW, a friend of mine drilled a hole in the iMac's base and screwed it down to the desk to prevent his kids from knocking it over.

Oh man! :eek: How did you manage to break so many of them? I'm hoping it wasn't on purpose because that's just mean!

Not on purpose, we just didn't realise the value of them. Everything is just a toy to a toddler unless you tell them otherwise :)
 
Looks like you're truly on it and I hope it works out very well for you. I too am glad your child is ok.
 
Kids are wonderful. Train them right and you never have to iron your own shirts, make tea, or cook dinner again. They can even bring you your beer out the fridge without complaining if you shout at them loud enough :D
 
Why is there a power drill in the picture...... did you work on your computer with a large power drill!? That is a good way to do major damage. Use a screw driver!:eek:
 
for anyone else that wants to replace the screen in a 24" iMac -- its not necessary to completely remove the screen

theres enough room to prop the screen up and access the drive.

far easier than removing the whole screen.

Ive done a 1/2 dozen or so now, could do it in about 15 minutes.
 
just do not leave anything you think has value in reach of childrens hands or feet or other body parts , i know what i am talking about , i was a child myself
i dont have children but beeing the godfather of one ...sweet little girl and she loves to touch everything with her hands thats in reach .... clap.... her parents lcd tv got a pressure mark exact size of her hand , but i guess thats the fun everybody is talking about
