So note 3 won't be pentile either like note 2?

With the ppi of the gs4 the whole pentile this and that can be thrown out the window.I can put 2 phones next to each other and you wont be able to tell witch has a pentile vs 3 sub pixel lcd.
From what I read online anyway is the gs4 is using a diamond matrix pixel array and not the same pentile as the gs3

It's still technically a PenTile matrix, but the different pixel array will make it a lot sharper.

gs3 uses RGBG pentile aray and the gs4 will use RGB diamond matrix
pentile means they are layed down the way my pic shows and the gs4 is nothing like the gs3 screen

Ok so I just spent the last 30 min trying to figure out the difference,from what I found out.Most amoled screens use either Red,Green,Blue,Green in a pentile matrix.The amoled plus screens(like in the note 2)use a Red,Green,Blue strip matrix but it has a lot of blue strips(prolly why white looks blue) and the new gs4 will use the same Red,Green,Blue,Green setup but not in a strip or pentile maxtrix and made the pixels into a diamond shape to fill the best they could to separate all the colors.
At its ppi it should look stunning and its not 100% strip or pentile,its like a said...diamond matrix

so if the note 2 wasn't a pentile screen, it was a 3 subpixel lcd display, it was better than the s3 display? So do you think the note 3 will have an enhanced display as well? I can't imagine the note 3 being 441 ppi, but at least 325 would make it look great right?
I know they are different and it's a big improvement over S3 but it is still pentile.
The note 2 uses a super amoled plus strip rgb display.
I don't know why some people think because a screen is amoled it has to be pentile.
The gs4 is not strip or pentile,its diamond shaped!
In general I thought people reviewing the S4 were saying that the Pentile screen (or what ever variant was being used) had such a high resolution that it was not noticeable. Seems plausible to me, we don't often view phones with a microscope. I'm still not sold on Android, but the Prentile screen issue seems like a moot point to me.
Google s4 pentile an a thousand sources come up claiming its pentile but just in a new arrangement.

I'm simply sharing my personal first hand experience as I own & have been using each of the models named in this thread. I'm a smartphone addict, tech addict, and "I've got to see it for myself" type of enthusiast
Each & everyone one has its own pro's & cons with the biggest drawbacks being displays of any type (other that retina) that are 18 months or older. All recent types are very impressive.
When compared side by side with my iPhone 5, you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference of consequence.
Only the tech nerds like myself get so involved & find each of these very interesting.
At the end of the day, the latest top of the line Nexus, Samsung Galaxy, HTC, LG models are all stellar.

The particular arrangement the S3 uses is what makes it pentile. The S4 has a different arrangement. it isn't just a variant of pentile.

Ahhh gotcha. I was under the impression that it was a variant of pentile. I didn't realize pentile was just a particular matrix. Sorry.
That's not what I gathered from the information i've read, or the diagrams i've seen. That's why I was questioning it. Regardless I'm gonna try out an S4.
Regardless of what Samsung wants to call it, at that PPI the screen will look fine as long as the colors are good.

Samsung is going to use a new technology inside their upcoming SuperAMOLED displays. The new Full HD SuperAMOLED panels are going to use a diamond or a hexagonal based structure. The new diamond a hexagonal based structure allows Samsung to achieve 440ppi+ pixel density in its mobile displays and also makes the display a bit sharper. Samsung has been developing those by utilizing the Laser-Induced Thermal Imaging (LITI) production process, which is cheaper and allows for much smaller subpixels to be laid out than the conventional Fine Metal Mask (FMM).
What with this being Samsung and all youd expect that this is going to be an AMOLED display and thats just what were hearing out of the rumor mill. At 4.99″, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 itll pack an impressive 440 ppi density that bests the iPhones retina density of 326 ppi. AMOLED displays have always had a stigma surrounding their sub-pixel arrangement and the Galaxy S III was criticized for using a PenTile arrangement but, the screen has since been praised as one of the best out there. Now, there is talk of this 4.99″ display to utilize hexagonal and diamond-shaped pixels in order to push all those pixels into an AMOLED display.
Samsung are able to do this through the use of their Laser-Induced Thermal Imaging (LITI) as opposed to the older Fine Metal Mask (FMM) process that was used in previous displays. There were rumors that Samsung were struggling to get mass-production of the panel all worked out but now it looks like everything is a-okay for the Galaxy S IVs display.
