hello all

basically i lost my iphone like a week ago when i was in the lake district. however, i didnt report it until yesterday. i know thats kind of my fault but i pay like £7 extra a month for premier insurance for this kind of thing happening.

anyway, i then assumed hthat i could go into the O2 store and buy an iphone 16gb for £155 and then link my contract back up. obviously i was wrong. apparently i have to buy a pay as you go iphone and it would cost like almost £400 to get everything back to normal.

basically im asking does anybody know where i can get a cheap iphone to use with my previous iphone's sim card?

thanks.

Surely if you're insured for loss, you can say "I lost it" and they'll send you a new one for free? That's what insurance is for.

So you "LOST" your iPhone but still have your SIM card? That doesn't sound dodgy at all. I'd reject that claim as well... Haha

Taken from O2 website.

I can't see why you would have to buy a PAYG iPhone.

All the cover you need. O2 Insure.

Cover your iPhone with O2 Insure Premier

Whether you lose it, damage it or it gets stolen, nothing will be more frustrating than being without your iPhone. O2 Insure Premier has been designed to get you back up and running as quickly and easily as possible. Insuring your iPhone with O2 Insure Premier costs just £120 a year. If you're a Pay Monthly customer you can spread the cost over 12 months for just £10 a month which is added to your bill.

What's covered?
Theft
Loss
Accidental Damage (including water damage)
Worldwide cover - including free international delivery
Guaranteed new replacement
Accessory cover up to £200

What's not covered?
The first £25 of each successful claim (excess fee)
Theft where your iPhone has been left unattended in a public place
The cost of repairs that fall within your iPhone warranty

exactly. but two different people on the phone said that i needed to report it within 48 hours and then when i made the official claim that was the reason they rejected it.

Is that stated in the terms and conditions of making a claim?

If so, then there's not a lot you can do about it.

Unless, you have home insurance that covers items away from the home, but again, there may be a time limit on raising the claim.

According to the terms & conditions of your insurance, you have to register your claim within 48 hours of the loss. Sorry, but it appears that you don't stand a chance! :(

thanks for the help guys. appreciate it.

could anybody give me any suggestions on what you would probably do? i.e. is there anywhere i could get a cheap iphone perhaps?

also, my renewal date for my contract is august 2009 (in case that would have any bearing on what you'd do).

Anytime you're dealing with any kind of insurance, make sure you know all the little codicils in the terms. They are in there to help the insurance company NOT pay out.

Insurance companies didn't become filthy, obscenely rich by paying paying out claims, they got that way by collecting premiums without paying out claims.

Or maybe I'm just bitter.

Why not give O2 a ring? I've always found them to be extremely helpful. Don't forget, you may have lost your 'phone but you haven't lost your contract! :)

If your contract expires this Summer I'd probably just wait it out and hope a new iPhone's out by then. As for cheap iPhones - £200's about the going rate for a 8GB 2G on eBay, so they're not exactly cheap . . .

Or you could just call them back and say you lost it today.

I agree with xbuddycorex, if they haven't logged it on their system that you've attempted a claim just say you lost it today and leave it at that. They can't prove you lost it say a week ago.
But as others have said you should check up on your policy T+C's before you make a claim to avoid this kind of problem. Such a simple thing has evidently cost you your iPhone.

Failing them taking your claim saying it was today i'd have to say you're on your own. No offense or anything (as I am totally behind you) but it's your fault for not educating yourself with the details of your insurance in the first place.
Try calling and speaking to a supervisor/manager and explaining the situation that you lost it and had no way to contact them until now.

i would have tried to ring again but im pretty sure theyd have it logged and theyd also have the phone barred already?
