So... Pixel book

Just curious if anyone is going to jump on this? The thing is pretty specialized and expensive but I could see how it's useful in some aspects.

Using the thing for writing would be a use for me since I could switch between my phone and the PC or Pixel book.

Of course there is always chrome for PC as well, but it kinda sucks on the desktop.

Running Android apps on the thing would be a nice bonus.

Thoughts? Have you considered one?

It's pretty stunning, BUT with many caveats. Firstly those bezels, jeez, do I get a laptop with my bezel purchase? I don't understand why this isn't an issue, the huge bezels just scream cheapness. It's a shame because otherwise the design looks great.

Of course there is the caveat that it's a watered down mobile system, but I won't say that because I haven't played with Chrome OS in a long time. But I do know Google is pushing hard to have Android apps work on it, and IMO that's not a good thing. I also think Google's productivity apps have improved a lot this last year. It also has a trackpad which is a massive improvement over Apple's refusal to use any kind of trackpad or mouse. I'm assuming the pixel book will have mouse support.

But the biggest caveat is the price, it's WAY overpriced, especially in light of Apple's selling their non pro ipads for so cheap. Even the pro ipads are cheaper I believe.

It’s a thing of beauty and awe, but damn, is it ever expensive for what it really is in terms of well, being a Chromebook at heart. However I won’t look down on anyone who wants to splurge on one.

It’s just that we only ever looked at Chromebooks for the kids. It would be a way of giving them something that functions enough like a laptop for school and term papers and all that, but doesn’t cost or weigh as much as a laptop or even an iPad, in case kids do what kids often do when they tote large items of technology around, which is have accidents and break things. The price of this defeats that purpose for my family.

I don't see myself getting one at that price, but I do like the direction Google is taking ChromeOS in, and it could some day be a worthwhile alternative to macOS/Windows/Linux distros. I'm glad that they continue to sell a high end ChromeBook to show that they are serious about the platform.

I'll be interested to see if Gallium OS or other full Linux distros run properly on these. If so, it might be a good machine for those wanting to run Linux.

I love my ASUS 202SA 11" Chromebook, but I paid $220 for it. I buy Chromebooks because they can be had for cheap, and often have good keyboards and trackpads. This is a secondary machine for me (in the way a tablet/iPad is), and I use my Macs much more in general.

I'm actively looking for a Chromebook to replace my iPad, but I think I'll pass on the Pixelbook and just go with the Chromebook Plus for the time being.

I’m still pretty enthusiastic about the Apple ecosystem so I’m not ready to embrace a competitor to my iPad Pro.

I'm ordering a core i7 16 gb ram 512 gb NVME storage model once they become available to order. I love my chromebook plus but it slows down and I fully use chrome OS to its limits and the android apps. I prefer it over windows 10 and its more useful than any ipad pro.

This machine is beautiful and those bezels are nice too. Those bezels are there to prevent false touches in tablet mode so it was a good design choice by google. Looks like the screen may be the same display made by Samsung thats on the chromebook plus which is gorgeous. I noticed both screens had same resolution and ppi and if that's the case, most likely its made by Samsung.

I expect to use this device for years so don' t give me the normal its too expensive since it runs chrome OS. Chrome OS with android apps has much more potential in the near future and I rather have the best for long term stability. The device is everything the ipad pro isnt.....No gated wall and a blend of a desktop OS and a mobile OS.
