So some types of data are encrypted end-to-end on iCloud??

I thought our data on iCloud sat there unencrypted, but the WWDC Keynote said our Health Data is end-to-end encrypted, and I think other types were mentioned are also end-to-end encrypted??

Correct, some types of data are encrypted - however, most are not.

An example of unencrypted data would be any back-ups of your iPhone or iPad stored on the iCloud. Another example would be all files you store in your iCloud Drive. As you can see from those two examples, the vast majority of your data remains unencrypted.

Hmm, why do think Apple won’t encrypt our backups?

In the case of iCloud Drive files I’m thinking it’s because encrypted iCloud Drive files wouldn’t work smoothly when we access a file on iPhone to an iPad and to MacBook.

So End-to-end encrypted has better security than the combined "encrypted on server plus encrypted in transit" because with encrypted on server, Apple has the keys, while End-to-end encrypted only our device has the key?

The benefit of iOS backups not being End-to-end encrypted is that we can have access to the backup data with just our two-factor passwords if the device being backed-up is lost or stolen? But the downside is that Apple could with their keys have access and de-crypted our backups??
