Does this mean Cupertino time? If so, the east coasters are likely going to have to wait until the following day (exclude 5th avenue, of course). But if it is 6:00 to each respective time... well, I could get one here in Boston and then fly out to Cupertino promptly, and beat all those turds to getting one.

on what your G5? and that is not a reference to a mac product.

The whole "6 pm" no matter what time it is sounds pretty strange. I want to walk into my Cingular store at 9AM and there be one sitting nice and pretty and fingerprint-less sitting on it's own display.

Looks like a lot of people better take back that day off they were planning on after all!

I also plan on going in early.

I think its to pull people into the stores for hours, instead of having them wait outside (unless the stores will only open at 6) so they get a chance to browse Macs and iPods for a LONG time...good marketing :)

they chose 6pm because thats when all call centers will close.

so if you have any problems you cant call 1800MYAPPLE untill tomorrow morning saturday 30th 6am :D

It is interesting. Most Apple stores are in malls. There are going to be lines for this phone, I am certain of it. People are going to be hanging around the store all day waiting for the clock to turn to 6. So the store will be flooded.

It is interesting though why they decided to wait. Why not just get the floods out of the way? My guess is one of two reasons. 1) allow people time to line up. If your Apple store is in a mall, how can you line up overnight? 2) Maybe you wont be able to demo one until the 29th? Maybe the display units go up on the 29th and they want to give everyone a chance to play with it before buying. By delaying it you could show up at say 10am and then jump in line if you like it.

Regardless, the stores will be packed! I am with Steve on this one... go to an AT&T store!

i have one local att store (still cingular) only 3 miles away which had no signs and i asked if they would be carrying it and they said no. thats funny because apple is only 1.5miles away from where i live and wondering what would my old co-workers would do to get it. the closest one is around 15miles away which is an apple store and the closes att would be 10miles and i havent checked with them if they would have them in stock.

seems like i'm going to be going to the mall :(

but i'll wait a couple of days till i order one online. dont want to get it too soon and if they do run out thats fine then i'll have saved up more money

I have heard only att owned stores and not franchise stores will have the iPhone. just what I heard, but it might answer the problem you raised.

Yeah, I'm assuming it's 6PM in your respective time zone. Gosh, that puts a huge damper on my plans to camp out all night. Who knows whether or not I can miss several hours of work to stand in line.

in regards to the person who asked why easters would have to wait... 6 would be 9 eastern, the apple store i frequent closes at 930. it would undoubtedly be a mob in there, and they would probably have to remain open after hours to accomodate p-eople 'just waiting in line.'

and as for flying out to cupertino with my iphone in hand, well guys, thats a joke. sharpen up!
