Q. If I use different accounts for iTunes and MobileMe, can I merge them into a single account and use it with iCloud?

A. No. You cannot merge two accounts into one. However, you will be able to move your MobileMe account (yourname@me.com) to iCloud and, if you choose, you can continue to use a different iTunes account for store purchases and iTunes in the Cloud

So I guess the closest we will get is to create a new @me.com with our iTunes account then move all our info onto our iTunes account with the new @me.com. Of course that leaves us having to change our email address everywhere but at least we'd finally have one ID for everything.

I can't believe Apple isn't going to let us merge our iTunes accounts into our new iCloud account based on our already existing MobileMe email address. I still don't understand why this is such an issue.

The only issue I can see would be updating all the current media on your machine, all mine is embedded with my current store id, if I changed I assume this would need to be updated

or does it not matter what current media shows

I see it mostly as a problem with both App Stores where I've spent significant money. iTunes music is now DRM free so once you download it, you don't need to sign in with that ID again unless you need to re-download it.

ok, then i cant see where the issue is, just need to tell their end that account X has all this data instead of account Y

just wasnt sure if there was any relevance to id being stored in your media,
