So what do they do with the leftover old models?

So what do you think they do with the leftover older models after an update like yesterdays? Do they just continue to sell them on to retailers (along with selling the new bits) until they have got rid of them all, and then only ship the new stuff...or is there some bright white dumpster at the end of an apple shaped rainbow somewhere in America :p?

you can also find some models under the refurb section.

Refurb looks like new, and has same warranty as new.
 
I swear, I think the old generation models show up under the refurb section, even though they are still new. I bought my 5th gen 30GB iPod right from the refurb store right after the 5.5 update. The thing was spotless, and looked like it had never been out of the box. The same is true of my refurb 1st gen Touch, bought after the intro of the 2nd gen. My Powerbook was similar, but it was actually a CompUSA refurb, not an official Apple refurb. They had just put it out as a display model when the Intel MBP came out. I was a bit nervous when the sales guy said he had a display model, but it was in perfect shape, and was about 1/2 the price.

This might just be my runaway imagination, but it seems like the put the previous gen stuff in the refurb store just to clean them out. But, hey, I like a good conspiracy theory. :)

That's the whole point of a refurb - to look like new. It's not like they get a returned iPod and just sell it to someone else. Usually it's only the insides of the iPods that they keep, and put them in brand new cases (after all, they have to give it a new serial number).
 
Yesterday went I checked out the refurbished store they had 2 2.8 C2D 24" iMacs, exact same specs, the only difference was the price, and the lower priced one said refurbished before it, the other one didn't say refurbished in front of it and cost about $200 more than the refurbished one.

I just checked now and didn't see any non refurbished models so they either sold all the brand new ones or just shifted them all into the refurbished models.

Checking the refurbished store now they have 65 20" 2.66, 232 24" 2.8, and 195 24" 3.06, but this info is pointless since I didn't check the stock of the non refurbished older models yesterday.

EDIT: BTW I bought a refurbished 2.8 C2D a month ago and it came with everything like brand new (including an iLife 09 disk) except with a brown box instead of a retail box, so I would rather get a refurbished than a new one from the refurbished store for $200 more, that's a lot to pay just for a box.
 
at the moment, there are a couple of models of minis, a couple of imacs (20" & 24") and the old 17" MBP in the clearance area (not the refurb section) of the Apple online store (USA)
