With the first 4k screen showing up today on the European on line stores, do we reckon that we we might see the nMP on Tuesday?

That is a pretty strong indicator that Apple has no plans to launch their own 4K display in the near future. BTW, It's $3300 USD on Amazon... but that's still ridiculous.

I expect we'll see a whole slew of 4K products announced at CES in January with products coming out over the following 3-6 months that are much more reasonably priced. I personally plan to wait until late spring before I seriously consider 4K.

As for the Mac Pro launch date, the only nugget we have is a German partner who's suggesting availability on Dec. 16th.

Surely they have to come out with a 4k screen. Personally I think they may wait for the long awaited retina iMac and release together, especially now they're putting the larger GPU in the iMac to power it. Maybe WWDC next year?

If the above is accurate, then they always had to allow nMP buyers to have a 4k display ready for purchase on release. No option on Amazon in the uk....used to that though!

I agree they will ultimately offer a 4k screen, but it clearly is not going to be this month :) I'm actually surprised they don't have something ready to launch now, but offering this Sharp display in their store pretty much guarantees they don't have any near-term offering of their own.

I think if they wait until the 4K panels are cheap enough to put in an iMac, they will have overlooked a huge opportunity to cash in on nMP buyers that want 4K displays between now and then. Maybe selling this Sharp 4K display offers them nearly as much margin on each sale as rolling their own. But I have to think that the price of this display means that sales will be few and far between. Who knows.

ps. Could the title of this thread be any more obscure? :p

i suspect late 14' or early 15' for a Apple 4k display.

If they wait until the next iMac refresh to offer a 4K display, you're right, it could be late next year.

Never been called obscure before....just added that to my list! ;)

You're a bit late here I'm afraid, I started a thread in the early hours this morning announcing this:

= basically no Apple 4K in the near future.
(They've never sold non-Apple displays in the Apple Store before, so it's a clear indicator.)

I don't disagree with your premise over the near future, hence my comment over WWDC in 6months. As I said earlier, Apple have to release a 4k compliant screen to go with the nMP now, even though it's not the in house solution we all hoped for.

Another point to remember, Apple are thought to have invested $2.3bn in Sharp last year......so you could argue it is partially an Apple display!

The Apple displays have to be updated to at least match the current case design and personally I think they will then do a retina and non retina screen update!

Ps the reason for my post was whether we thought we might see this addition to the store as a pre cursor to the nMP release next week.

Perhaps/maybe/possibly, but ultimately highly unlikely in the next couple of months for the release of the nMP. I bet you they don't do any display update at all.

Until they make a single 4k panel instead of sticking two panels together I don't think Apple will go there. The technology isn't ready yet for a complete product.
