I've been running Yosemite off an external disk drive for a couple of days now.

I don't hate it, and I don't love it. I guess it works as an operating system, but what I'm finding is that since I no longer care about the "user experience" (icons and fonts and what not), I'm forced to treat my computer as "just a tool".

And when I try to think about that ("who cares how it looks, what can it do for you?")... There are obviously better choices out there.

So what is it? What's so magical about Yosemite that should make me want to continue to use it? I don't care about things like Handoff or even iCloud. I don't care about things like memory compression or app nap.

I now exclusively care about getting things done. So why should I continue to use a Mac?

If you are looking for strangers on the internet to convince you to stay with Yosemite or a Mac, you might want to reevaluate your line of thinking.

It is not our job to convince you of anything. What may work for others, may not work for you. If you aren't happy with Yosemite or the direction of the Mac line, move on to something else. No need to make a thread and be dramatic about it all.

Instead of what you don't care about, it might be better to tell us what you do care about....but that might answer your own question, if those things are delivered by a choice of OS' then make your choice, if those things are only found in OS X, well there you are.

At the moment its only guesswork for anyone but yourself.

Given your outlook, I think you should buy a PC at Walmart.

Did you consider your computer to be your girlfriend before?

And an operating system that works as an operating system...
